If Rocco can't build an inclusive and strong enough clubhouse culture to accommodate primetime players with ego, brashness and fire, he shouldn't be an MLB manager. Period.
I can't even imagine accepting this as an excuse for this trade. To me, it means that a culture of mushy mediocrity is all we're building here. Yuck.

You mean not competing this year, next year, the next year, the next year... back to the seventies, only with a team that is not even 500 capable.

The Yankees were never in the SS market, they've been pretty clear they are saving that spot for a couple of their young prospects.  They wanted a placeholder and IKF fits that.
I don't think this team is done reshaping this roster.  And when a team is as bad as the 2021 Twins were....why would anyone want to roll out with the same people?

The convoluted nature of the last day illustrates how averse the FO is to big contacts for pitchers. Maeda and Gray both have very team friendly deals. They don't appear as averse to large deals for position players such as Donaldson. It follows then that they will add Story and trade for a pitcher who has a uniquely team friendly deal. Now if someone figures out who that pitcher is you could save us all much suspense.

Gio played some short last year. It is reported the Twins have no interest in keeping Sanchez. Something is going on. The Twins are loading up on people who can play multiple positions so Gio makes sense with that. So something is coming. We will need another catcher. Hopefully they dumped Donaldson’s contract to sign Story. Hey atleast they are not being boring

It would appear the Twins are clearing payroll for another move - let's hope that this isn't the last big move.

If Urshela is the 2019 and 2020 version....I think I really like this trade.
It's essentially Garver and Donaldson for Urshela and Sanchez.  We save a buttload of money and I think we're a better team for it.
I don't think this team is done wheeling and dealing.

Are they magically going to obtain an actual Ace, another solid starting pitcher and a bunch of excellent reliable BP arms by midnight tonight? I doubt it.

The Twins should only trade expensive players if they plan to spend that money elsewhere and there's no indication they plan to do that given how they acquired zero good starters before the lockout.
And if they're not going to pay for pitching, they should go ahead and keep their good hitters in hopes they can slug their way to some victories.

I'd say yes and no. For a veteran player wanting a commitment to championship caliber teams? Absolutely. The Twins have shown for over a decade they will not commit the resources necessary to take that next step. It's not like players and agents don't know this.
On the other side, I honestly believe the fans have a great reputation and the organization is known for treating people well and for at least a baseline of competitive play recently. It's probably not seen as a bad place to play ball in general.

sorry...but i can never get too excited about any players that K as much as all these guys and cant even hit .250 in the minors. We needs Stars..not average Joe players that hit .230 and K at a 30% + rate. Really excited to see what Miranda can do when he jumps up...and then Austin Martin and Wallner. Lewis still has a lot of improving to do before he can can up and help.

I would put Arraez high on the list of potential trade candidates. I would be in favor of a trade for a pitcher that can be in rotation next year and a couple of good prospects.

Do you actually believe a free agent would pass on a million dollars just because no team has been persistent?  If that is true, then they are paid too damn much for playing a game.

Arraez should be traded this off-season before any trade value he has goes away. He has no power, no speed. no defensive position and he has been injured too often. He could be easily replaced by any one of several players with more upside as a defender or hitter or both. I don't think he will be one of those players that we (the fans) will look back on and say "if only the Twins had kept him."

The team can call it what they like. The fact is, they were SO hyper focused on ensuring they signed a long term deal with a player that cannot and will not stay on the field (and was currently still under contract) they missed out on any chance of brining in any viable FA talent. By their own admission they were "caught off-guard" by how fast the FA market sped up in the midst of the lockout. THAT IS THIER JOB! They are supposed to know what the market is going to do, that is why they have the jobs they have. They missed out on potential players; then they should be replaced by people who know what they are doing. Again, Buxton was under contract and not going anywhere. They should have focused on the guys needing to come in here.
Again, I don't care what the Twins call it, but they need to conduct big changes in the franchise as they are getting passed by, quickly! Other teams, even small markets, were conducting moves... we gave a ten year deal to a guy that can only manage to be on the field 30-40% of the time. Perfect, glad that deal got done. I was worried he'd hobble away.

KFEY93 reacted to Doctor Gast in New Years Resolutions: Starting Pitching
I have no idea who you were talking about when you stated  "and there’s a man in charge that once led a strong rotation." We haven't a strong rotation since J. Santana & Liriano were pitching. We had a pretty good rotation in '19 which tore up the league in the 1st half but after the BP blew up, they had to depend too much on a sick Gibson and a newly converted BP Perez. We did well in 2020 not because we had a strong rotation but we had a weak rotation that succeeded because of a short season. In the last few years we haven't had a strong rotation but only one strong pitcher, Berrios.
