Good thing Vikings training camp starts in two weeks and we will have football in a month or so. I stopped watching these games after the home Cleveland series they blew, have just been checking scores since and its been a wise decision. This team is who we thought they were before the season started. An offense that can be top 10 if it wants to be, meh starting pitching and GARBAGE bullpen. The whole team over achieved at the same time for a month or so (much like 2015) and has revealed its true self along the way up to this point. Its not fun to watch, so I wont. Hopefully we dont make the play offs as it would hopefully sound the death knell of Rocco and maybe wake up the front office that we need pitching in droves if they actually want to compete. And by compete I mean sniff a WS, not win the worst division in baseball and maybe snag one play off win. That's not competitive, that's just being a baseball team.

I know I’m in the minority on this, but it’s hard to see why we would mortgage our future by trading any legitimate prospect or big leaguer likely to be part of the plan in 2023 and beyond for any rest-of-year rental.  It’s painful to say, but based on our play over the past month, we’re just not that good and have too many holes to fill, mostly on the mound, to truly be considered real contenders. Let’s see how the rest of this series plays out, but the data points are starting to accumulate.
Sure, we may hold on to take the weak central, but we should still be focusing on a bigger open window over the next several years. So if we move anyone, move the players who are not likely to be here next year - the list might include Kepler, Sano, Urshela, and Sanchez. Maybe even Correa if you can’t get a commitment out of him - even though by keeping him you still retain some chance of catching lightning in a bottle this year.

Gray careening back to earth is really bad news for the twins. Right now, the only somewhat reliable guy in the rotation is Ryan, and he’s been inconsistent as a rookie usually is. This rotation would be underdogs against any team who could qualify for the playoffs in the American League. I think the twins are probably the 7th best team in the AL. The team was 27-16 (43 games) on May 24. They are now 22-26 in their last 48. More than half the season playing sub .500 ball

Meh, what has he done besides gotten a little out of lower level pitches in 2019? Our pitching staff, starters and BP have been far from stellar in his tenure. That may be because of lack of talent but, along with him and Rocco, im meh. Both can be gone as far as Im concerned.

Yeah okay Nick, you like Rocco, we get it. Its okay if others don't. This screams brainwashed homer calling people "Doomers" for not liking everything about the current team. If I wanted that I would sit on the cult site that is the Twins subreddit.

How about a real first baseman who knows the position and a catcher who can throw a guy out once in a while?
Or a pitcher who can keep the runners close?
    Holes. We have holes.

Thanks for reading. I think how the FO plays the deadline will be a reflection of how serious they are about making an October run. If they acquire a playoff caliber SP and two strong bullpen additions, they have a much better shot at winning and October series imo. I want them to be more aggressive than they have at the deadline previously.

I'm glad the bullpen is the top point. The way playoff baseball is now played, dominant bullpen depth is more important than top tier starting pitching. The Twins fanbase knows playoff success via Viola/Blyleven, Jack Morris, and Johan Santana. But right now a starting pitcher's job in the playoffs is to merely get through the order twice, unless it's a blowout.

The Braves don't hoard relievers in July every year coincidentally.

Dont need another 1B.  Bullpen is priority with Rocco's 4 inning starter proclivity

Yeah, Mancini makes no sense. 1B/corner outfield is where the Twins should trading from not adding to

I rather we just trade for about 4 effective bullpen arms.  We don't need a 1B or a Catcher.  We need Pitching with a big ol PERIOD.

That and the Polanco ignored dropped infield fly. Every player on the field looked deflated after that, and you can see Rocco saying " You gotta be ****ing kidding me". Like....you cant make up how these team finds ways to lose winnable games.

I felt like the Urshela baserunning blunder was the point at which the Twins remembered who they were playing.

Full on fetal position after the gallo homer to start the 5th against bundy and the subsequent missed strike 3/homer allowed by cotton. One single baserunner after that

KFEY93 reacted to bighat in Yankees 10, Twins 4: Duffey Clobbered Again as Twins Drop Game One
It's also worth questioning why Tyler Duffey was the choice to pitch late in a one run game.
This is because this was one of Rocco's "forfeit games" where he refuses to use any of his best players because he's saving them for later in the series. Basically the Twins weren't playing to win last night - they were playing for a win on Wednesday/Thursday.
The problem with this strategy is that all too often, the rest of the series goes sideways and the best guys never have a chance to pitch in a meaningful game. The Twins may very well lose the next two games by double-digits, and therefore the best chance they had to win was during that 1-run contest last night*.
As a fan, I want my guys to play to win TODAY - and worry about tomorrow when we get there. Rocco's approach to the MLB season has always been way too far sighted for my taste.
*In fairness, a team should have a bullpen full of major leaguers that can get batters out, regardless of how good the team they are facing is. The Twins have some serious holes in the 'pen and need to make changes.

Also, Rocco should be criticized for pitching Duffey there. That game was still winnable.
