miracleb reacted to jmlease1 in Respect Michael Helman
I think he might have challenged for Castro's spot without the injury in spring training. This latest injury stinks for him because until Lewis is ready, he might have gotten a chance if someone else had gone down. He doesn't have a big window in which to impress, unfortunately, because there are a lot of prospects that play his positions with a better pedigree and higher upside.

A good rule of thumb is, "Is this the kind of trade the Rays would do?"
Encarnacion-Strand is a decent prospect, but he can only play 1B so unless he is an elite hitter, it's not a big loss. He's not even ranked in the Reds top 10 prospects.
Steer is a decent hitter who can't really play defense and has already been relegated to 1B for the Reds. He's 25. His upside is meh.
Hajjar is a too-old-for-his-level lottery ticket pitcher that the Reds already traded away as the PTBNL for a depth outfielder they traded for at the 2022 deadline.
I'd want the Twins to pull the trigger on that trade 11 out of 10 times. That's how you become the Rays.

Hmmm....giving up some rock solid prospects for a pitcher with "some" injury history who had an ERA "slightly" below what our then current crop of starting pitchers were already putting up..........no!

miracleb reacted to Hubie29 in 4 Early Trade Targets that Can Upgrade the Twins' Offense
Well, I respectfully disagree. We could use an upgrade at almost every position, but obviously that isn't feasible. Every line up in the majors has weak spots. However we have about 6-7 weak spots one through nine on almost every night. We need to upgrade in at least half of them. 3B, LF, RF, 1B, C to start. We might see alot more 1-0, 2-0, 3-1 losses until that happens.

miracleb reacted to JD-TWINS in Next Man Up: 4 Rotational Options Behind Bailey Ober and Louie Varland
The deadline potential trade is 3 months - half season away. With the 2 guys we’ve brought up & potentially either Maeda or Mahle coming back in June……..along with SWR in June if needed. We should be OK til the deadline. Hopefully, they’ll have a better feel for potential of Paddack helping in August/September sometime in June.
My bigger concern is the swift decline of Jorge López. His first 8-9 outings he was aggressive all around the edges of the zone, with an heir of confidence. Now (last 3 appearances) he’s pitching with a nervous smile - getting behind - throwing thigh high fastballs after behind. Not looking good at all — reverting back to August of ‘22 —- looks a lot like Pagan.

Some interesting names, but I'm not so sure any of them could beat out the guys at those positions already on the Twins roster.

miracleb reacted to jishfish in Consensus MLB Draft Board (Version 1)
First of all, just want to say thank you for putting this together! As someone who follows the draft pretty closely, I can't imagine how much work this has been!
My view of things at the moment is that Crews/Skenes are essentially locks to go in the first 3 picks. I don't think any amount of struggles in the next 2 months, or even injury, could possibly knock them down to the Twins,
I think this Twins FO would love for Langford to drop to 5, which is probably unlikely, but certainly more possible than Crews/Skenes. Personally I feel like there's a pretty big drop off after the top 5 (Jenkins/Clark being the other two), so I'm perfectly happy if any of those are the pick. They all have unique skill sets, with the potential to be all-stars at the next level.
I'm probably the outlier on here, but I have very little interest in Dollander at #5, even if he turns things around the rest of the college season. I would much rather go for a high-end every day player and take shots on college pitchers in rounds 3-20. If the Twins decide to get creative and potentially save some money at #5 to go over-slot at #34/49, the two I would have my eye on are Kyle Teel and Tommy Troy.
Still a long ways to go, and the MLB draft is so unpredictable that things could look totally different come July, but the only thing I'm confident of is that the Twins are in a great spot given their lottery luck and bonus pool!
