Kepler still a Twin on opening day?  Gallo playing 1B?  Where have I heard that before...

I don't think anybody has said that he is a long term piece of the puzzle or a "core" piece.  But he does have value, more than people think.  He should benefit from the shift ban and he is a very reasonably priced piece batting 7th.

Let the "We have to trade Kepler!" screaming commence.

Why would Larnach or Celestino need to be DFA'd?  Both have minor league options.  Larnach needs to show he's healthy, and Celestino could use some more time in minors.  St. Paul should have a starting outfield of Larnach, Celestino and Wallner with Garlick at DH.
Vets and guys without options start with the big club.  Someone will probably, although hopefully not, get hurt.  Someone may not take advantage of their opportunity and then be passed up by someone who is performing.
Don't sell low.  None of the outfielders are slam dunks with nothing to prove, but they all have upside or at least above-average skillsets in different parts of the game.  Let them battle it out and then the trades or DFAs can occur during the season when the cream has risen to the top and the occupancy in the trainer's room becomes a familiar look.

IMO Ober should be in the pen, replacing (hopefully) Pagan but probably Megill. I agree the pen IS top heavy, with a shortage of 2-3 inning guys. They got burned out last year that way, (and the way they seem set on limiting starters) so it would be nice to see Ober there. Jax and Ober would be a very good combo of 2-3 inning guys, while using Pagan as mop up.

I've wondered about Gray too. No way they trade him. As long as he's healthy this year I see him as a QO candidate, so at least you don't lose him for nothing, but otherwise I think they let another team pay Gray for the back third of his career.

Very true. Underrated moves on behalf of the pitching staff. There are many ways to approach run prevention.

I might get blasted here, but I thought the Arraez/Lopez trade was good for the Twins...partly b/c of the prospects added by Miami.  Partly b/c of the average-at-best defense at 2B and 3B/lack of power/problematic knees, etc..
But I think it's pretty obvious that if the Twins are ever going to have an "ace" they are going to have to develop him.  They aren't going to, probably rightfully so, spend top dollar on a FA.  They also, probably rightfully so, aren't likely to ship out half their farm system in a trade for one.  To me, that's where the pressure is on Falvine.....Derek, find us our Shane Bieber!  Or our Frank Viola.  Or Johan Santana.....

I'm still handing the ball to Joe Cool on Opening Day, but Lopez is a good addition.  I really hate losing Arraez, because his PAs were often the highlights of any game.  The FO was smart to sell high on Arraez instead of selling low on Kepler at this point.
