The Twins aren't going to sign any of these players, but...
The "now isn't the time" argument has always been wrong. There is never the "wrong time" to get better players, yet people make that argument all the time.
"Wait till we're one player away to sign that player" is, to put it bluntly, a stupid idea.
You wouldnt be one player short had you signed that player when you could.  Not to mention that "one player" might not be there now.
Sign good players when you can.
Of the three, I'd take Correa, but the Twins won't sign any of these five.

I have no real qualms with this order, aside from maybe Ryan being above Larnach.  I tend to value pitching more than a corner outfield types with below average gloves, even if they have middle of the order potential.
Admittedly, there could be some recent SSS playing into that logic in this particular case.

The same is true for all professional sports leagues - this generation of players is the kind that isn't motivated by the "old school ass chewing" manager. When there are cases where the ass chewing is deserved, it's not coming from the managers but rather the veteran players. That case of Machado ripping into Tatis Jr. a few weeks ago is a perfect example: 15 - 20 - 30 years ago it would have been the role of the manager to keep an iron fist on their players; today most teams lean on veteran players to be the clubhouse / bench leaders.

I think the FO intends on putting the best team they can on the field in 2022. With that said, Donaldson is the every day 3B.
If Donaldson goes down with injury, bring up Miranda and give him every day looks. Depth is always good.

Who cares whose fault they are?  All we have to predict the future is trends of the past.  Players with this kind of history rarely become durable.  The time of his life where his body was the most resilient was spent playing halves to thirds of seasons.  That has bearing on a 7 year contract.

I greatly appreciate all your work on these recaps, Nick. Excellent write-ups. Well done. Yes, let's hope they're more fun to write in 2022.

Agree that Donaldson is a positive for the Twins both offensively and defensively. He also provides a certain degree of leadership as well as experience. Now, if he suddenly wants out or is disgruntled and could be a disruptive presence, then you do all you can to move him.
Arguing about his health is pointless on a couple levels. No player is of value when out with injury. And if Donaldson is such a risk, even after been largely healthy and available this year, then wouldn't other teams ha e to consider that in regard to trade talks? I'm not saying don't trade him if a good/smart deal comes along. But how much $ do you have to throw in to get him moved for virtually nothing in return? And how much $ do you actually save to make a difference, especially compared to his potential value you are now losing?
It's just not as simple/easy as saying ",move him".
When the Twins add a SS...and hopefully a quality RH 4th OF...it's really easy to see a player roster of up to 18 players to roll through during the season. A lot of times these things just seem to work themselves out. I can't wait to see Miranda. And I'd like him playing daily or close. But unless 2022 is a true lost re-tool situation/opportunity, nothing wrong with having the most talent you can, the most depth you can, and work Miranda in rather than just handing him a guaranteed job.

I do not have the solution, but would have loved to see Miranda get some MLB exposure.  However, moving Donaldson to DH does not work for me, I watched him run out to LF and catch a fly that I don't believe more than 2 or 3 players would have gotten to.  His bat is valuable, but so is his glove.  I want Miranda up, but I do not know where.

I'm also confused why anyone sees Donaldson as anything other than a positive for the Twins. I guess it continues to beg the question - what are the Twins plans going forward?
Jose Miranda has had a terrific season and if he is ready to contribute at the major league level there will be a spot for him. He can be a piece next year or perhaps included in a trade for pitching. If the Twins are planning to be competitive next season (.500 or better), they will need to explore every decent free agent and trade possible. Every single player can be traded from the current roster if the trade makes the team better. Obviously, there are players we want to hold (Polanco, Buxton, Donaldson) or develop further (Ryan, etc.), but the goal needs to focus on a better team in 2022.
Miranda needs to play where he is a better defender. If he can play an average LF and hit, fine. The Twins do not need any more weak defenders. I'm hoping he gets 500-600 at bats next year for the Twins and hits .280 with production as well as playing sound defense, likely between 3B, 1B, and 2B.

I’m shocked the Mariners are still in it. Their roster is not good and their hitting and pitching both look below average on paper, yet here they are. It’s inexplicable that they’re a good 13/15 games ahead of the Twins.

Given his injury history in the minors, I'd be inclined to keep treating him with kid-gloves. Realistically the team is not going to compete for a division next year; all you want to see is growth and health from Ober and Ryan next year with an eye to compete in 2023.

I think they handled Ober nearly flawlessly all season. Never expected all this from him, but also, with his track record and not pitching last year, to get him to make every start and remain healthy is fantastic.
His previous high was 78 1/3, but even that came in short spurts with a couple of extended IL stints. So, just as important as the number of innings, they were watching his number of pitches. I know some were frustrated, but whatever the plan was, it has worked!
Secondly, the player development and analytics and all that stuff Falvey brought in has really helped him. First, there is the increased velocity. Second, he told me in a 2019 article about using the technology and analysis to find a release point to stay healthy, to gain velocity, to know that he needs to work up in the strike zone, etc.

Isn’t the old adage about sophomore slump for starting pitchers due to blowing past their previous innings peaks and having a dead arm their second year?
Im not sure I’d stretch his innings much year 2, maybe 5-10% and look for year 3 to start extending the length of his starts significantly

Solid starter, no. His benefit is versatility. He's a competent defender in all three outfield spots, not on the level of Buxton, Kepler or even Celestino.

Re Gordon: if the FO has to make a choice between Gordon and Astudillo as the utility guy, that's a no brainer. I have no doubt Gordon is going to work hard and improve.

He's got an option, so I don't think this is a decision that needs to be made this off-season. I think he's done enough to keep on the 40.  A 99 OPS+ in 212 MLB PAs is hardly a miserable failure for a rookie.

    Agreed on Rooker.
I quite confident we'll see Jax in Minnesota again, almost surely from the bullpen. His slider is good enough he'll receive more chances and he has options remaining.
I believe the chance of Cave returning is near-zero. He's now arb eligible and there's absolutely no reason to start paying him a seven figure salary.
