Thanks. He really is a great story.

I think he gets a shot at those early starts with Pineda and Hill out and makes it hard for the Twins to take him out of the rotation when they return. Keeping hitters off balance and sequencing are key for him. He is going to throw his off speed and breaking stuff more than half the time. They have got to get that mix right.

Take Tyler Austin off the list. He signed with a team in Japan. Pretty good deal for him actually, and I bet he'll rake.

Who is this Kohl Stewart guy? He was a first round pick, and isn't that old. I'd take on flyer on him, I bet he'd sign cheap.

Would I be upset if we signed Ryu? No. The guy can pitch. And maybe Wes and Rocco can nurture him for 180IP per season to make it work.

But if we were going to take a shot, I'd rather bet on the bionic arm of Bumgarner. His injuries were a motocross accident and a freak injury where a ball hit his hand, IIRC. Despite all his IP, I would still feel better about him, his experience and bulldog mentality vs a guy 3yrs older who can't stay on the mound.

Bumgarner...and this is what scares me...is just ready for TJ or a rotator cuff or labrum problem based on all his IP. But what I love about him is he just may indeed have a bionic arm. Maybe he is a LH version of Jack Morris. Laugh if you will. But think about Verlander with Detroit. He looked almost cooked. Then he rebounded and was traded and found a second life. Bumgarner doesn't have, and probably never had, Verlander's velocity. But pitching isn't always about pure velocity. New team, fresh experience, new coaching, I would bet more on him and his arm and experience and attitude over Ryu in a heartbeat.

I know we could get burned. But isn't that true for any 30yr old pitcher with miles on his arm? But I am willing to take the chance on MadBum and what he has left if the cost doesn't get crazy.

I think my MVP actually goes to Cruz, slightly over Kepler just because of Kepler's recent injury.

"Player we would have least liked to lose for the full season" would be Taylor Rogers. Remember how bad our bullpen was before the all star break? He was the only consistent guy in the pen.

I agree about Arraez as Rookie of the Year, Garver as Most Improved, and Rogers as Pitcher of the Year.

With all due nods in Garver's direction, though, I have to pick Cruz as most valuable. The missing defensive contribution as DH is more than compensated for with the power hitting in meaningful situations and the well-attested intangible of clubhouse leadership.

Plenty of data on baseballsavant re defensive metrics, especially catcher framing. Castro is having a very good year. Garver is much, much improved from last year. Astudillo's strike rate is still higher than Garver's though. All three are better than average in pop time but Castro's arm is the best of the three catchers.

Buxton is leading all of MLB in outs above average.

Schoop is better defensively than Arraez and much better defensively than Sano. Arraez has options left. Sano only has one left, which hasn't been used this year.

Are you saying you'd dump Schoop permanently because Arraez has been really good at the plate through his first not even 50 plate appearances? That's idiotic.

No need to give Schoop or Cron a long term deal. They are both replaceable by guys in the Twins system already; Gordon or Arraez, Kiriloff or Rooker.

Berrios is our best current pitcher by a mile and should absolutely start game 1 of any playoff series.

You're worrying too much about stats in ballparks or stats versus teams. These don't compare well in a player to player comparison. For instance how does Berrios sample size in Tropicano Field compare to Odorizzi who called it home for so many years? How does Pineda's sample size against the Yankees stack up to everyone who didn't play most of their career for them? Gibson, Berrios, or Perez versus Pineda or Odorizzi in Fenway/Yankee Stadium/Tropicano doesn't really work because Pineda and Odorizzi were in the AL East for a long time. These comparisons are almost never on an equal footing.

I don't see an argument that any of our current pitchers has better stuff or track record than Berrios and he should be used in as many games as possible in the playoffs. Game 1 starter all the way.

You wouldn't trade Royce Lewis for Max Scherzer?? We're talking about a future hall of fame pitcher, one of the best starting pitchers in the game controlled for what, 3.5 years? I'd do that trade in a heartbeat. Prospects are prospects. Big contract, and I don't think Washington would do that anyway, but I absolutely would.
