Thanks for this, was a pleasure to read. 7/133 actually seems more than fair to Buxton. I wouldn't make him the highest paid player in baseball. He's not Mike Trout, because Trout has actually proven he can stay healthy and win MVP's.
7/133 would be a huge gamble for the Twins. If Buxton wants more than that I'd honestly try and trade him this offseason.

Simmons will certainly be available on a one year deal again, for cheaper. He can't possibly hit worse than he did this year, right??

I was born in '91, so I've never seen a MN major sports championship, but if the Royals and Marlins can win a WS, the Twins should be able to. The Brewers have a shot this year getting zero help from their former MVP; there's no excuse for the Twins not winning a world series or playoff series when teams like the Marlins, Royals, Brewers, Reds, Rays, Rockies, and Cardinals have done it recently. I mean, the Rays have been to two world series in recent memory in the toughest division in baseball with zero fan support, a crappy stadium, and the lowest average payroll in the league.

If you use the four main professional sports leages- NBA, NFL, MLB, and NHL, Minneapolis currently has the longest title drought of any city with all four leagues represented. End of story-worst state to be a sports fan.
Throw the MLS in there too, though the United have only had four seasons in the MLS so far and definitely overachieved last year.

Who's the next team to break the title drought? Uh...Wild, maybe?

Rocco literally said the Twins are rebuilding this week, using that exact word. He also said the Twins "don't have the payroll of the Dodgers or Yankees" so can't just spend our way to contention year in and year out.

Yep. I'd be willing to bet Donaldson ends up with more career WAR than Buxton.

Buxton's presence will not be missed on a nightly basis because he's never played on a nightly basis. Speed first outfielders with a long history of injury issues don't suddenly become more healthy in their 30's. He's not going to be consistently on the field. Frankly I think the Twins offer to him was more than I would've offered. I'd do a shorter higher AAV deal though.

The Twins have already made an overly generous offer. He is a career .247 hitter and his yearly war is just 3.0. They offered him more than the Yanks gave Hicks. Berríos apparently wants $25M per year. Was nothing learned from the Mauer contract?

I strongly doubt the Twins extend either Berrios or Buxton. Berrios wants to see what he's worth in FA and if the Twins were going to extend him, that would've already happened. Buxton is expecting Betts/Lindor type money, and no way the Twins will pay that. I wouldn't touch extending him with a 20 foot pole with his injury history. Players with injury history in their 20's don't suddenly become healthy in their 30's. Aging is unavoidable, and since Buck relies so much on his speed as an asset, he will decline. I love Buck as much as anybody but you have to face the facts that he will not be a reliable CF. If he plays a corner spot he will be way overpaid especially when we have Larnach, Kiriloff, Wallner to fill those spots at a cheap price.

Next 6: Arraez, Balazovic, Kiriloff, Larnach, Lewis, Duran.

Thanks, this is interesting and encouraging. I'm now going to check BR to see who he pitched against in those 28 innings...

    11 innings vs Cle
    5.1 vs KC
    7 vs Det
    3 vs CWS
    1 vs Bos
    1 vs Nats

Mostly not good offenses. But it's not like 20 of the 28 innings were against the Orioles.

110/8 = 13.75. if JD signs for 110 million he needs to produce 13.75 WAR to justify the contract. He produced around 6 last year. 13.75 is just shy of 3.5 WAR per season. I feel like even with regression he should be able to hit the number or close to it. I don't think it's a huge overpay to sign him. If there was ever a time to strike it is now. But if the Twins want to play chicken with him and the other teams over 10 million whatever. They should make a small concession when he is ready to sign if no one else blinks to get him here.

Thanks. He really is a great story.

I think he gets a shot at those early starts with Pineda and Hill out and makes it hard for the Twins to take him out of the rotation when they return. Keeping hitters off balance and sequencing are key for him. He is going to throw his off speed and breaking stuff more than half the time. They have got to get that mix right.
