If Twins get 1-2 more above average relievers this is a completely different team.  No offense but I don't see anyway White Sox walk away even with their incredibly weak schedule.  We are talking a 9 game difference.  That is a very large amount.  Really our Top 4 starting pitchers have been solid all year,  and they seemed to get refreshed after the All Star Break.
So to Win, Twins need to trade for 2 relievers minimum.  have a healthy Buxton who begins to hit for higher average, wait for injury reinforcements on the pitching side for the bullpen.  If can get 1-2 more arms back and we still have the lead in the division or tied,  that might be enough.

It's only a story because it's Sano.  Arraez has routinely sat against left handed starters and has gotten the occasional start, which mainly came because of the injury to Polanco where Luis was at 2nd base.  The narrative for people to freak out because Sano is starting over Arraez vs a left handed starter isn't warranted.

Per fangraphs the Twins have a better change of making the postseason than either CWS or Cle. The White Sox suck. Their clubhouse is a mess. The Twins are like two bullpen arms away from running away with the division.

I really doubt they’ll even consider Maeda for the rotation given the need in the bullpen and how much longer it would take for Kenta to work up to 100 pitches.

There was rumors they signed Priellip today overslot.

Also regarding Daniel since he was injured and going to a Juco and if he doesn’t sign, the Twins have up to a year to sign him for $225,000. This sounds like what will likely occur.

I’m not sure we can say we are weak when we have Ryan Ober and Winder that have been succeeding at the major league level, smeltzer which has been a nice depth arm this year and 10 other pitchers with a legitimate shot at making the big leagues in the next couple years. Honestly what the young pitchers have done at the MLB level is amazing and wasn’t expected when the year started.  For as barren as the cupboard was 5 years ago this is a night and day improvement.

bunsen82 got a reaction from SwainZag in Trade Rumor: Should the Twins Trade Carlos Correa?
It’s not horrible it’s all relative. Many want to say you are giving up on a season when the season is likely already lost. The whit Sox face the weakest completion from here on out and appear to be getting their act together. Whether we trade Correa or keep him for the rest of the year will likely make minimal difference. If someone offered an overpay consider it.  If it included a lessor short stop with another year of control it could be interesting. I am not willing to just say it’s not an option, however much of the fan base just wouldn’t understand it.

Totally agree with your assessment there.  Schulfer is an easy stash and I think he has the stuff to be good in the pen but the Twins don't seem to like to add reliever's to the 40 man that easily. So i put him on the outside looking in for now.  Lawyerson's ERA at AA is incredible but he doesn't have a big fastball if I remember correctly so wasn't sure how long this dominant streak was going to last at AA.  Looking at his numbers again you might be right the WHIP has been there all year and the ERA too so he must have developed and elite out pitch somewhere along the way.  The main jist of my post was there are a lot of guys probably worthy of protection.  It is hard to know who the Twins will add but one thing I do know is they can't add them all.

Good to see Cavaco swinging a hot bat.  Would really be nice if he took off as he is one of the few potential 5 tool guys in the system.  Unfortunately the hit tool is the most important tool and he hasn't really shown much progress to this point.
I was down on the CES pick when the Twins drafted yet another slow plodding corner power bat but boy has he been amazing.  His first year of pro ball and he is already at AA and killing it there just like he has every level so far.  He should have been a 1st round pick.  I can't think of another college hitter that has moved this fast in the Twins system with this much success.  Have to give the draft team credit as he was a real find in the 4th round.  Hopefully he can improve that defense at third base but he looks like he has a major league bat IMO.

When I saw Festa in Beloit a week or two ago it looked like he was giving up some pretty hard contact to left handed batters and he struggled with his control from time to time. Still at the game I went to he was able to consistently get out of jams.  To be honest his stuff did not look that impressive to me but he was getting a lot of weak contact in that game so it is better than it appears as he has had really good success all year at least until this last game.  The Season is getting longer and I wonder if some of the younger starting arms are going to waiver down the stretch.
I did not get to see Sabato in the game I went to as he ended up being the first base coach.  So no idea what he looks like at the plate other than numbers that don't look that great.
The poster before me has it right on Severino.  He looks good to me still but not good enough for MLB and even though I still like the hit tool it has to be almost elite or he might not even make it out of MiLB.  He has been hurt a lot.  I don't see the Twins protecting him though.  Javier won't be protected and as mentioned will likely hang around until he become a free agent.  Gray is rule V eligible this year as is the whole college 2019 class but Gray won't end up on the 40 man.  He still has contact concerns IMO and is no threat to be taken.
Guys the Twins will likely need to worry about in rule V would be Canterino, Steer, Wallner, Varland, SWR, next tier being Headrick, Jullien, Isola and Legumina.  With even more fringe guys like Mooney Lawyerson, Shulffer and SGL.  2019 was a pretty good draft year for the Twins.  Also I have no idea how they feel about Palacios but he is still not the on the 40 man either.  Lot's of guys to protect so Severino, Javier and Gray are the least of their worries if you ask me.

Well if Priellip signed overslot, they either have others already signed,  or they feel comfortable they will be able to make up the money later.  That sounds very good.  It looks like everything is going smoothly with signing players.

I was surprised and Happy the Twins were able to get Prielipp in the second round.  I honestly was wondering if one of the top 7 didn't make it to the Twins if they would go pitcher with their first pick.  With TJ out of the way and if his pitches are as good as advertised he should be a fast mover through the system.  Really nice to see the Twins have some good lefty options in the system.  I am guessing the Twins paid a hefty price going over slot so I sure hope this works out well.

This was a really big pick for the Twins. Although all baseball draft choices are iffy to some degree, I can't remember the last time I felt so confident in the first two picks. Of course, unlike other sports, we will need to wait a couple of years to see Brooks Lee and Connor Prielipp.

Picking 8th overall in the 2022 Major League Baseball draft, the Twins were bound to wind up with a solid talent. After grabbing Brooks Lee, they found themselves in position to get another first-round talent when they took Alabama’s Connor Prielipp in round two.
A lefty starter from Tomah, Wisconsin, Connor Prielipp was named the Gatorade Player of the Year in 2019 and tabbed as the state’s top draft prospect. As the Crimson Tide staff ace, Prielipp dominated to the tune of 21 scoreless innings with 35 strikeouts before the pandemic ended the 2020 season. He underwent Tommy John surgery last May, but showed well during the Major League Baseball draft combine. Prielipp has a devastating slider and can touch 95 mph on his fastball.
He’s agreed to an over-slot deal with the Twins. His professional career will soon be underway, I caught up with him in the days following the selection.
Twins Daily: Your draft status was talked about as an early pick, but having not pitched after surgery you had to have some uncertainty as to how things would go. What was the experience surrounding the draft and workouts for you?
Connor Prielipp: Yeah, not pitching for a long time was really tough on me, but I never lost the confidence that I had while I was playing, and I always believed in myself. I was able to do the bullpen in Hoover and the [MLB] Combine and to be fortunate enough to give myself the opportunity to play professional baseball.
TD: Your stuff was some of the best in the country prior to Tommy John surgery. How have you rebuilt following surgery and where do you feel like you’re at now?
CP: My Tommy John surgery rehab has gone very well throughout the whole process, and I feel like I am just about back to my old self at the moment.
TD: With such an impressive slider and the Twins being notable for loving the pitch, what are you most excited about developing with your offerings and repertoire?
CP: I am very excited to start working with a professional staff, and I am not working on anything, in particular, to add to my repertoire at the moment.
TD: Coming into professional baseball, what do you think is the thing that you as a pitcher can take the biggest leap? How do you feel about the pitch clock in the minors?
CP: The biggest leap that I can take as a pitcher coming into professional baseball is to just become more polished and to be more consistent with all my pitches. The pitch clock doesn’t really bother me, and I don’t really have too big of an opinion on it.
TD: What do you know about the Minnesota Twins? Have you ever been to Target Field?
CP: Growing up close to the Twins and Target Field, I know a lot about who their best players were and some of their history, but I, unfortunately, grew up a Brewers fan and never made the trip to Target Field.
TD: As a person or player, what is something you want Twins Territory to know about you?
CP: Something that I would want Twins Territory to know about me is that I am going to do everything in my power to try and bring a World Series to Minneapolis.

bunsen82 got a reaction from Craig Arko in Buxton out for Detroit series, may return healthier
Wow, not what I expected to see in this thread. First off this was likely a procedure recommended by the club. We could continue the play with days off, or try this treatment and possibly get more play in the season. Yes because he played in the All Star game he missed an additional 2 games. But that isn’t really the question here. If he wasn’t willing to go along with management he could have refused the treatment.  Honestly get even more rest days on top of an easy All-Star weekend honestly this could work out as good as we could hope for.  Add on top we swept anyway.
