Aichiman reacted to LastOnePicked in Pineda's return for 2022? What is his contract like?
I'm confused. Why would we be spending this kind of money on an aging starter who just had multiple injuries, whose fastball is down to a career-low 90.9 mph, and whose strikeout rate was 5% below league average? MLB Trade Rumors also points out that he allowed "more hard contact than ever before, both in terms of average exit velocity (91.2 mph) and hard-hit rate (46.1 percent)."
If we're really going to compete in 2022, we need FA starters who are A LOT better than Pineda. If we're not going to compete in 2022, then it's time to see what the prospects can do. I don't see a roster spot for Pineda either way. The article says that Baldelli considers him a "pillar" in the clubhouse, but after a dismal 2021, I can't see a reason not to build a new clubhouse culture.

Sorry, but even if Ryan turns out to be at least a serviceable starter (or better) AND if the Rays win the championship, no, the Twins didn't "fleece" the Rays.  Not only is it too early to tell if Ryan will be good, it is also to early to determine if the price TB paid for Cruz was worth it, as they are going for it all this year.   And I ask the same question here that I ask with every trade - why does every trade have to end with a "loser" and a "winner" like the games?  What's wrong if both teams get what they wanted from a trade?

I like this article.  It's not idiocy. I've been thinking the same thing (Maybe we're both idiots?)  Of course you can't base this decision on two or three weeks of low productivity.  Hitters go into slumps all the time.  But the guy is 40 years old.  And we do have a log jam of outfields coming up.  If Cruz commands a big salary--and I think he will--we definitely should consider not signing him!

Best Twins team since 1991 will never see the field. Pretty depressing. I know it's for the good of mankind and all, but a gut punch nonetheless. Damn.

Yeah, I like Dobnak, even with a loss today.  If I had to choose today, I'd go with Dobnak.  But we've got two more weeks of Spring training to go.  That gives each candidate at least 2 more starts.  Things might be clearer then.

I'm really torn here. Given a choice, this is the perfect opportunity/time for a young 5th SP...Dobnak in this case...to gain experience, perform, and build his case for the future as well as 2020.

But if a flier like Chacin finds his old self again, you are adding not an experienced body, but a quality ML SP with real value for a team with playoff and WS aspirations. That would be killer! What a potential steal!

But yeah, how about a young SP from the system who can be a part of our team for years to come? Dobnak!
