Setting expectations low so it's easier to exceed them?

I'm not sure I understand what they're planning to do with the damn near 20 minor leaguers who need to be added to the 40 man this offseason if not try to trade them for major league help. It's an expiring currency. Get a couple relievers now in exchange for a few of these guys, or get nothing and have them end up on the Marlins and Orioles next year anyway.

Falvey is nothing but a fraud..The whole striking when the window opens was all a lie.. Probably never expected this team to be as good as they would be this quickly. I hope they surprise us by Monday but i just dont see it..

I don't understand why they aren't willing to trade for rental pieces... I mean, all they look for in free agency are players looking to sign 1 year deals to keep "financial flexibility". It doesn't make sense.

My anger mostly lays in the past offseason (but we've been over that dozens of times) and the fact that the bullpen needs, say, three arms.

Only one of those arms needs to be great/elite. That arm probably won't come around until July 30th or later.

But it has been painfully apparent with the emergence of Rogers that the Twins needed a lefty specialist... about two months ago. Did we get Thorpe? Nope. Did we get a trade? Nope.

The bullpen also needed another good righty arm. Did we get Stashak three weeks ago? Nope. Did we get Kennedy or another rough-but-potential arm a month ago? Nope.

And that's what pisses me off, the exact same way it pissed me off in 2015. July 31st doesn't need to be some magical date where things can be done only with the 48 hours leading to that day. If you need a quantity of players, not all of which need to be great, it's not impossible to target players in that range from June 15th forward and pick up one or two pieces (even if it requires a slight overpay, which will still be very little) well before the deadline so that when the deadline comes, you're focused on picking up the truly great players that will help the team down the stretch.

And in the meantime, you won't get games like that abomination last night or the other abomination from last week (or two weeks ago, it's all a blur now).

    A bunch of frauds, really.

He was on record saying that when the window opened, they would strike. Well, that window of opportunity has opened. Unreal, but truthfully, not surprising.

Get some help for the bullpen. Immediately. Don't dither over the decision, don't haggle hard over the cost. Don't let others beat you to your preferred targets.

You have a lineup. You have reasonably strong starting pitching. Your team battles.

Crowds are showing at Target Field, TV and radio ratings are up. The entire region is engaged.

Don't blow this. Don't chicken out. Don't worry about the possible cost 4 years from now.

Do it. Now. Do not let this bullpen cost you any longer.

Blown again with two out in the top of the 9th.  Disgraceful.

Rocco needs to lead the whole lineup, no showers, bats in hand, up to the GM's office after this game and sit there until a deal gets made.  We've all known this since April, and it would have been easier to get it done then. They work too damn hard for this to keep happening...

While it looks like the Twins will be making moves at the deadline, just for once in my life I would like to see the Pohlads takes their heads out of their pocketbooks and make the splash move that puts this team into serious contention. It seems maybe some of the players are realizing the Pohlad's M.O. as well.

One hears about a manager "losing the clubhouse." I don't recall a FO discussed in similar terms. But if asked, as a seasoned General Manager over many, many seasons*, I would advise FalVine to be careful about this.

He just nearly (should have) won a Gold Glove at a second position, and he's been hitting over .300 for with a great OBP for about a year now.

Sure, he's not winning anymore MVPs anytime soon, but good grief....and World Championships (plural - as if dumping Mauer and playing Rooker is the difference between us and the Astros)?.....maybe tone down the sensationalism a tad.

    He's not going anywhere.

People are kind of assuming that his career is over. I think he has a lot of productive time left. For my money, if you need a base hit in the bottom of the ninth with two down, there aren't a whole lot of guys I'd take over Mauer.....especially in our lineup (a lot d high K guys).

I think they'll work out a reasonable, team-friendly, 3-4 year deal and let him walk as a Twin on his own terms. I think it's on the Twins, though, because I don't see Mauer wanting to go anywhere chasing a paycheck at this point. Not when the Twins are looking like a top AL contender going forward.

Mauer's not flipping around this year, darn it. In fact, he was at batting practice, and the batboy asked him which bat was his, and Mauer finished dipping his French fry in mayonnaise, and then said, "It's the one that says Bad Mauer Flipper on it."

Mauer's a stud, and that is not fiction of any kind.

Berrios is a stud too.  A stud muffin even.

Pressly is gaining my confidence, and Moya has it.  I'll be bummed if he gets shipped out tonight.

    Odorizzi was terrific.

Duke was actually fine. He actually had reverse splits last year. I just would have liked to see him go to Reed to face Joseph mainly because Duke was already at 20+ pitches in the inning.

    Reed was fantastic.

Rodney got an unlikely job done in the 10th, and honestly, I have no problem with him throwing a first-pitch strike in the 11th... Jones was just ready for it.

I truly don't have much problem with the game. Frankly, the offense just didn't show up until the 9th inning. Rosario looked good. Got robbed. Kepler had the one really good PA (walk) and a single. But the offense will be fine.

Nothing really to worry about based on this game.

For what it's worth, I'm bothered and saddened by the result of this, happy as I am as a fan that Sano will be in the lineup. I just hope that there are people throughout the Twins organization who are stressing to this young man the importance of treating people with respect.
