Twins Daily has learned and confirmed that Tyler Jay has been moved to the bullpen going forward. A couple of sources have verified the change.

We will have much more on that, and several other minor league notes today.

Day number one of the 2019 MLB Draft is finally here, and it will feature Rounds 1 and 2 along with Competitive Balance Round A sandwiched between the first two rounds, along with Competitive Balance Round B which comes after the second round. On the night the Twins will have three picks at numbers 13, 39 and 54 overall. This is a great opportunity for the Twins to add even more talent to an already deep farm system.

The Minnesota Twins did a good job adding to their farm system with three picks on Day One of the Draft. With their first pick they took Keoni Cavaco, a high school third baseman from California. They then added a couple of Matts with the 39th and 54th overall picks. The first Matt being Matt Wallner, a Minnesota native who is a right fielder for Southern Mississippi. The second Matt was Matt Canterino, who is a right-handed pitcher from Rice University.

Not all prospects pan out. That's just the nature of the game. Baseball can be a cruel and challenging journey but that's why so many people love this sport. The unknown is always around the game. On any given night, a player whose name you've never heard could make history and that history is deep-rooted and transcends generations.

Byron Buxton was supposed to make his own history. He was a can't miss prospect with the potential to follow in the footsteps of current All-Stars like Mike Trout and Bryce Harper. Things haven't gone exactly to plan for Buxton and the idea starts to trickle in that the Twins might have been a little too aggressive with their budding star.

This was supposed to be my article for Monday night, but with the firing (er, dismissal of duties) of Terry Ryan on Monday, this topic could wait a little bit. But I think it is important. Now the article can be framed as a request for interim GM Rob Antony to consider.

With the Twins already out of playoff contention (probably in early May), every decision made for the rest of this season needs to have its focus to 2017. Any trades made by Antony need 2017 and beyond in mind. But there are a couple of transactions that can be - and probably should be - made right now.

See updates below...The Twins lost two players in the Major League portion of the Rule 5 draft and added a right-handed pitcher. In the minor league Rule 5, they added two players without losing anyone.

On Thursday morning, the 2017 Winter Meetings will come to a close with the annual Rule 5 draft. Last month, the Minnesota added three players to their 40-man roster, but they left several very talented players unprotected. The Twins could potentially lose a couple of players (at least tentatively) to the Rule 5. However, they currently have just 37 players on their 40-man roster, so in theory, they could make a Rule 5 pick (or three!).

Below you'll find a brief preview of the 2017 Rule 5 Draft, but as the draft takes place, this article will continue to be updated if the Twins lose or gain players. So be sure to check back often. The draft starts at 8:00 a.m. central time.

It’s been a rough start to the Minnesota Twins season, with two losses at the hands of the Detroit Tigers by a combined score of 15-0. However, today, Alex Meyer will take the mound for the Rochester Red Wings. JO Berrios is expected to start for Chattanooga, and Miguel Sano and Byron Buxton are expected to be in the lineup behind him. Kohl Stewart is starting for Ft. Myers. Nick Gordon is making his full-season debut with Cedar Rapids.

By the end of this week, the Minnesota Twins will have to add some players to their 40-man roster. The Twins currently have 33 players on their 40-man roster. That number does not include Byung-Ho Kim. So, the Twins could add as many as six players to the roster. Most likely, they will add three to four players.

In the Twins Daily Offseason Handbook, I went into more detail on several of the players that the Twins will likely consider for adding to the 40-man roster. Today, I’ll post the most likely players for the Twins to add with some more information. We’ll start at #1 with the player most likely to be added, and get through the top 10. Of course, these are just my opinion, so I’d encourage your thoughts below.

With the Twins once again buried in last place and their starting pitching staff once again ranking among the worst in the league, fans have been asking the same question for much of the summer.

With the number six pick in the 2015 MLB Draft, the Twins selected Tyler Jay, a left-handed pitcher from Illinois. This was a pick that was hard to peg down as there was no consensus on what would happen with the early picks in the draft. To read more about Jay, check out his Twins Daily pre-draft profile.

After taking a high upside high school third baseman in Keoni Cavaco with their first round pick, the Twins stuck to a strategy of picking only college players with their remaining 10 picks in the first two days of the draft. As a result, it is expected that the Twins might have some left over bonus pool money to try and make another splash or two in the early rounds of day three.
