October 2023 Update (End of Season)
It was mostly a poor season for Simeon Woods Richardson, whose prospect stock has declined severely in the past few years. But he did finish very strong and that provides some reason for optimism heading into the offseason. Woods Richardson posted a 1-5 record and 7.46 ERA in his first 13 appearances, including one clunker outing for the Twins, but turned it around to go 6-1 with a 2.92 ERA and .196 average allowed in his final 12 games. At the same time, many of his peripherals were underwhelming and SWR seems to be at a crossroads – is it time to move fully to the bullpen and see what he can do there?
July 2023 Update
By the end of the 2022 season, Simeon Woods Richardson looked like fully baked major-league rotation depth. He was wrapping up an excellent season in the high minors with an impressive MLB debut to cap it off. Unfortunately, he's seen his stock drop sharply here in 2023 with his performance unraveling. SWR struggled in one MLB spot start and hasn't been able to find a groove in Triple-A where his K-rate is down, his BB-rate is up, and he's getting knocked all over the plate with a 6+ ERA. Woods Richardson's age (still 22) is his saving grace at this point, but a bullpen move could be in the cards soon.
