Twins have yet to field a starting roster in ST

This team is comprised of icicles. If anyone thinks the regular season will be all hands on deck every day they are fools. They can't even field the regulars for 1 game in spring training due to injuries not completely healed from last year yet or from just being overly cautious. Wasn't the excuse for poor play at the start of the season last year due to a shortened spring training and yet here we are a year later and the regulars aren't playing every day getting primed for the regular season. When they start to fall like dominoes due to injuries again, the FO will have no one to blame but themselves for bringing in and sticking with injury prone players due to the cheaper cost of rostering players like them. When June or July rolls around and half the roster is on the IL they'll only have themselves to blame.

Just curious if any other team has fielded their full expected starting lineup in a game this March. Has it happened?

What MLB team is expecting the regular season to be "all hands on deck every day?" What fan of what MLB team is expecting that? Nobody who watches baseball regularly is expecting that. No team is fielding their regulars for any game in spring training to this point. The Rays didn't send a single major league position player to their game with the Twins Thursday. I mean you're just complaining about Spring Training in general here.

The difference between last year's shortened spring training and what the Twins are doing with a few players this year is that the Twins players have been in the complex for the full Spring Training, and they're all participating in activities. Hitting, running, fielding, pitching, everything. Buxton played in a minor league game instead of a major league game because the rules are different and he was allowed to bat 2nd every inning. Didn't have to follow the lineup. Could just step in there and hit when he wanted to. So he got more game action there than any major leaguer gets in any Spring Training game to this point of Spring Training.

None of this means the Twins will have a healthier roster. They may still get hurt. But there's a big difference between you not seeing them play, and them not playing.

The poster rv78 was making a comment about playing regulars. Please do not twist it into something the poster did not say.

Sorry, but I wasn't twisting anything. The concern about playing regulars seems a stretch. I have been following the Twins games and the lineup that Tampa Bay put on the field recently was just one example of another team not using their "A" team. The Twins have used all of Jeffers, Miranda, Correa, Gallo, Kepler, Larnach, Farmer, Solano, Taylor, and Garlick amongst others. We were told a long time ago that both Buxton and Polanco were going to be held back from games this March as they prepared to be in the lineup in KC on Opening Day. Kirilloff has been the guy who is still iffy. I don't think it is worth it to worry about something that is not worrisome. I also have not been paying any attention to the box scores of other teams in March, whereas I would quickly check the box scores of every game once the season begins. I was wondering if other teams were showing their top lineups already.

So if we win we get your car payment and mortgage payment?  We aren't falling for that. 🙂

Ninja’d while I was looking for a gif of the Constanza-Seinfeld bit of Jerry giving George Super Bowl tickets and George responds with “You GAVE ME A BILL Jerry!”

All of the players are working on baseball every single day for many many hours. Which is what spring training is all about.

Yes, it seems the games are more showcasing minor league players NOT on the roster comapred to vbeterans getting used to playing with each other on the field.

But it does seem that pitchers are getting in their innings and pitches. Batters are batting against live pitching (facing internal options any better/worse than facing minor league guys from other teams?).

Plus, do guys need to play 10-20-30 extra games before the season begins? The WBC at least was competitive, in some ways - if a guy got to play. I'm sure, if able, every Twin on the 40-man is getting in proper fielding, hitting and running, plus pitching every day. What spring training is all about.

They aren't. Nobody has put their opening day lineup out there. Stop saying they are. Are most regulars playing in games? Yes. That is a different thing than "other teams were showing their top lineups already." You can disagree with the Twins handling of Buxton and Polanco without making stuff up. Teams aren't showing their top lineups.

Very nitpicky about picking two guys out of Yankee lineup and say they weren't playing their regulars.  Come on, get real!  This is all part of the Twins managing style.  Don't play regulars unless you have to.  It's a very foolish position.   Look at the past two years. Injuries and late season collapse not withstanding this has been two of the most boring seasons in recent Twins memory.  When the Twins stumble out of the gate in April, with a tough schedule they will say they are just getting in their groove.  Oh yes and the always games in April don't count, it's a marathon not a sprint comment.  At some point this spring they must use a semi regular lineup to be sure everyone is ready and prepared.  To do otherwise is foolhardy.  And yes the team and followers last year whined about the shortened spring training.  I am expecting a good season this year with the additions made this year.  The FO and field "manager" are running out of excuses!

It's not "nitpicky." It was asked if anyone was playing their "top lineup." They aren't. Again, you can dislike how the Twins are doing things without making things up. The Yankees had 7 major leaguers on their position player roster that day. I'm pretty sure that isn't their "top lineup."

What was their spring training playing time like for their starters last year? If you're going to claim this is "part of the Twins managing style" I sure hope you looked that up. Cuz I did. And it doesn't match your claims at all. Again, you can dislike how they're handling Buxton and Polanco without making things up. I'm sorry if you think it's "nitpicky" to actually want facts.

Yes, at some point they will need to use their regular lineup. Probably will start seeing more regular lineups popping up next week after teams make another round of demotions this weekend (and the WBC ends so it's even possible to play a top lineup). This isn't abnormal stuff. This is how spring training works every season. Nobody is using their regular lineups yet whether you like it or not.

Oh, Buxton and Kirilloff are both playing in game action today for all of those still worried about them.

OK. I have only paid attention to the Twins thus far and their opponents haven't exactly put out their top lineups. I'm still not worried about either Buxton or Polanco.

Nick mentioned Polanco has a wrap on his knee so I have some concern about him. It’s also not the end of the world if he’s not in the lineup on OD.

Freeze the frame at 08 seconds left .... batter looking out to mound .... umpire calls violation. I think Banuelos was looking to call time. That was an unnecessary call, even in March. Whatever, it doesn't matter now. I hope this never occurs during the season.
