I don't blame anyone for assuming that Paddack is bad, or at least below average, until he shows something else. Do I think he's better than this? Absolutely. It's freezing cold, and he's facing the best lineup in the league. But I don't blame anyone for being skeptical about Paddack.

Quit the weather excuse, the Dodgers are playing in the same weather as the Twins, period.

Skeptical, sure, I'm very skeptical of him as a starter. But I'm not going to trash him for a couple of bad error-laden innings against the Dodgers, either.

Sometimes it feels this way. I think Rocco wanted more out of Winder yesterday but that didn't happen for obvious reasons. He should have not fallen back to single-inning guys the way he did and tried to get more out of fewer relievers, in my opinion.

Yup.  Joe Smith being able to throw more than 3 pitches would have been nice, but that's a direct consequence of Rocco using Smith in the 8th inning on Monday.  It should have been obvious that Monday would have been the time to use Winder, especially with a 4-0 lead against a not great offense.

Had he done that the Twins may have won the game, but my hindsight is perfect

In 2019 and 2020, yes it did.  In 2021, not so much.

Is the argument that him coming from college caused him to be ineffective in his 3rd year in the league, but not the first 2? The point is that the hitting coach coming from A ball likely has nothing to do with any hitter performances in the first 5+ games of the season.

Why was Smith put in for only one out?

In the old days, da da da daaaah, pitchers would pitch two days in a row or do as the Dodgers did put a normally late game pitcher in to solve a serious problem.

Smith and Archer were the best two yesterday.

I’m surprised more people aren’t talking about Correa having an off-day 6 games into the season. I’m sure the Twins have their reasons, but it is definitely a head-scratcher for me. Does anyone have insight as to why he has the day off?

I assume it was planned. Last night was a weird day, we saw him get PH for when the field was wet. He got a late start to ST, and I'd much rather get 140 games out of him than forcing him to play on April 13th. That said, it is odd that we gave him a rest against a LHP.

I'm saying if David Popkins was ready to be an MLB hitting coach in 2022, he probably would have been coaching somewhere other than A ball.  Wes feels like an exception at this point, and perhaps was still in college because he didn't want to be a pitching coach in the minors, and no one was willing to hire him straight to the bigs (since he was the first college pitching coach to ever go straight to MLB from college).

On the positive side Paddack has improved each inning so far - 2 runs in the first, 1 run in the 2nd , none in the third.    Maybe a 1-2-3 inning here

Shouldn't the pattern be -1 run in the 4th?  I look forward to the Twins batting with the game tied 0-0 in the bottom of the 5th.

ESPN usually waits until the 6th to do perfect game alerts. I think they can go ahead and get started here

I mean, I'm not a Baldelli guy, but he didn't make the errors, nor were the errors made because he asked a player to play out of position.

If a manager puts some one where he is a poor fielder, or positions them where they cannot make a simple play, it is HIS fault, no one elsel

Much better response by Paddack. I assume he's done. He was far from great, but his defense did nothing to help him, and the conditions aren't great (yes, they are the same for the Dodgers, I understand). 12 swings and misses on 72 pitches when he had little command. I still remain skeptical, but he settled in.

Nailed it! What are tonight’s lottery numbers?

Maybe I'll push my luck with a bold pick out of nowhere - Twins tie it up in the bottom of the 4th.

Yeah, overall a pretty meh start, which is more than I hoped for after the first and into the second inning.

That's exactly the point I was making--Baldelli did not do that.  Urshela is the primary 3B, and has a career 3.6 UZR/150 in over 3200 innings.  Paddack is the starting pitcher--where exactly do you think Baldelli should have had him play defense today if not at pitcher?
