I was unsure how to reply, having a hard time zeroing in what the word "intrigues" means for me. I went with SWR, on the grounds that I'll be watching him the closest because IMO he has to succeed or the Berrios trade is not a success, regardless of the Hall of Fame career Martin puts together. Yep, that's my Hawt Taek for this deadline. :)

(Conversely if SWR becomes the next Berrios then Martin can flop completely and it's still a wonderful trade.  Many other combinations of outcomes besides these extremes also could make it a good deal of course.)

Chief and Brock have managed to ruin the ability to run a legitimate survey at this site. :)

It's so legitimate that the guy conducting the survey didn't even bother to answer his own question!

So, I'm intrigued by Martin and what that does to the organization.  I'm hoping he's not insurance in case they can't extend Buxton, but I'm also curious about what that means for Lewis.  Obviously a great problem to have, but the fallout of the addition is just as intriguing as the prospect himself for me.

I drove an Austin Martin years ago. That thing turned like it was on rails. Poor gas mileage but man that thing could maneuver well. Had to choose #1 for my vote.

Did Q hook you up with any sweet gadgets?  Or did you just have some ordinary Austin Martin?

Martin is of course the main intrigue. Pitchers, even highly touted ones, often flop for the usual reasons - can't throw strikes, elbow pops, etc.

Martin sounds like what we all hope Royce Lewis will be: A motivated, engaged baseball player that is constantly looking for ways to beat you, and good enough to make it happen.

Hey, both our top prospects today are named after fancy cars!

I'm wondering (close to intrigue) if Martin can be a player that hits 40 doubles every season and walks more than he strikes out. In time players develop some power (10-15 HRs per year), but the Twins need players on base and hitters to have high RISP averages. Can Austin Martin be like Alex Bregman? In some ways it does seem like he has a similar line as Luis Arraez right now, so there may be some duplication in a few years or whenever Martin is ready. I think the allure of Royce Lewis is his speed, arm, and ability to play good defense while being a star at the plate too.

Little late to this thread, but agree with Ash that it depends on how you want to define "intrigued". Obviously, getting Martin is big. His floor would seem to be a high quality hitter with some power potential, great bat control, decdnt speed, etc, who should be a super utility guy who can play all over daily. I absolutely think he should keep playing SS to see what he might be there. And how can you not be excited to add SWR and Ryan both to Duran, Winder, Balazovic, Canterino, Sands, Ober, Enlow when healthy and a few others.

But Strotman is the guy who "intrigues" me the most. By all reports he throws in the mid to upper 90's and his other pitches show solid potential. He missed most of 2018 and 2019 dealing with TJ surgery and recovery. After missing 2020, and only 5 games at A+, he jumped AA entirely and went to AAA for this season. His K rate is excellent even though his control is off. But coming off surgery, and missed time control always seems to be the last part of the recovery process.

I think we got a big arm, potentially, from a well respected farm system, who is just a little "down" despite what he's doing at AAA at the right time with a good future.

Martin is the headliner but the pitchers intrigue me more.

Joe Ryan is the one that really peaks my interest.  From my limited viewing he seems to be a weird baseball player and I love those guys the most.  Major bonus points for being Rays drafted and developed so far.  Funky background with athlete parents and an unconventional upbringing.  Weird approach that has brought him success, current AAA numbers are based on throwing like 75% fastballs.  Speaking of the fastball it isn't an overpowering pitch but his motion seems to create a lot of deception.  So he is dominating with a mid 90s fastball and less developed secondary stuff.  It will be interesting to watch him going forward how far can the weird fastball take him vs mlb hitters, 3 starter or late inning weapon?

SWR is also pretty interesting.  Fastball looks to have good break to it, change/ curve look to have real plus potential, slider/ cutter in the mix as well.  If the change or curve develops into a real out pitch you have a similar prospect to Berrios.

An Arraez duplicate presumably without the leg problems and able to play ss/cf is a pretty ****ing awesome player.
