Is Buxton playing for the Twins tonight?

Recommended Posts

It would be a total joke if he is rushed back, and potentially a very unfunny one if he gets reinjured as a result. The chance of the Twins qualifying for the postseason is infinitesimal. No reason not to wait until we are certain he has recovered and can go full speed.

How is he less likely to be injured playing tonight for St. Paul?

He's not, but perhaps they're working on certain things to see if he reacts negatively to them.  No sense activating him until they know he's not going to have to go right back on the IL.  Last I heard, straight line running wasn't an issue but cutting and direction changes were.  Perhaps that's still a problem?

I want him back up too, but it doesn't make a lot of sense to rush anything in a season that's already down the toilet.

Either way we all know he'll be back on the IL

There was a deep fly to the wall yesterday that he awkwardly gave up on.  I guarantee they told him to not even think about going all out/diving/crashing into the wall.

That home run to center was an absolute rocket tho so nothing is holding back his swing and he should have been called up today.

Buxton just smacked two home runs yesterday.  He won't get any more ready than he is.

Maybe they are holding him back to reduce the amount of running around he will have to do, since Shoemaker is starting.  Maybe they think all backups in the OF is ok.  Who knows.

Sounds like Shoemaker has been moved to the pen. Ober starting tonight.

Thank God Shoemaker is going to the pen. I've been advocating for this for 3 weeks. That's his only chance to stay in the Bigs; he can't stay as a starter.

If Buxton isn't coming up will Gordon play CF or RF? Celestino isn't ready but Gordon may be. I'd love to see him playing every day in the OF until some of the "real" OFs come back. May as well see if he can do it and expand his usefulness to the team. Also a good way to find out if he can hit as an everyday player.

Let Buxton play with Saints, all he wants.  He gets hurt down there so be it.  Once he feels healthy to come back up, bring him up, hope he as a good couple of weeks and then I would float him on the trade wires before deadline.  Someone who has been on IL more than games played for year in and year out, does he really have long term value?  Give Gordon the everyday job for next few days and see how can either blossom on defensive side of things or what his limitations are.  Pleasant surprise at the dish, so he will cool off, everyone does so he will have some up and downs.  Rather do it now when we still double digit losses below .500 and not sniffing playoffs.

Even 2 games in St Paul was a complete waste.

What are they hoping to achieve by playing him in St Paul instead of Minneapolis?

Makes zero sense.

I was on board with their plan until they decided not to activate him today... why baby him like this when it’s inevitable that he’s going to get hurt again? Not that this team is going anywhere with him this year, but I don’t get it.

Hard to believe tonights lineup. 6 of 10 spots to rookies. It's fun in a way, and to see 4 of them look so promising at the plate. Larnach and Kirilloff batting over .260, Gordon and Jeffers really playing confident - awesome news (duh) bench Shoemaker in favor of Over.

I think we start winning more than losing. Bold statement maybe. Last night was huge.

Can't be much longer though.

With Buxton's proclivity for injury, I imagine he'll stay in St Paul, long enough to tear an ACL or something else.

So we've been told that Buxton is going to play in St Paul Saturday and I just don't get it. I know that players used to go on even longer rehab assignments and I understand the worry about re-injury here, but this is Buxton.

Anyone who thinks he's going to put less on the field in St Paul than Minneapolis is crazy! First AB he legs out a triple instead of playing it safe with a double. Then he hits 2 HRs, has an OF assist and runs all over the field with that awful AAA pitcher giving up 10 runs. If he's healthy enough for that he's healthy enough for the Twins. And if he's going to get re-injured he'll do so no matter what ballpark and what team he's playing for because he always gives 110% effort. That's who the man is.

There is no hope for playoffs anymore, but we have a home game after a dramatic win and a chance to get fans excited again and keep them coming to games and they're not taking that chance.

Because in AAA a player can be told not to play to win but rather to play for his own rehabilitation. Because in AAA player can be told to ease up without repercussions regarding postseason aspirations of his team or of the opponent. Because in AAA a player can be pulled after two plate appearances without worries if that's in the player's best interest.

Sorry friend, none of this makes any sense to me.

If he's healthy enough to be on any baseball field, he's healthy enough for that to be Target Field.

He's not going to run slower in St Paul. Swing softer. A half dozen ABs makes zero difference getting ready to hit. If he can't run full speed, or play nine innings, or play every day, he shouldn't be playing at all.
