Where are they now? Ex-Twins in 2019

I’m pretty sure this is the Lohse-Prince game I mentioned:

https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/MIN/MIN200108180.shtml

Through 2 innings, Lohse allowed 1 run on 2 hits and 3 walks throwing like 60 pitches. After that (and Prince) nada for 4 more innings.

Buck had himself a pretty good day. So did the Canuck.

Okay, this is funny... because it's funny.

But also, I swore up and down that year by Grossman was a fluke and it was. I mean, he's no GGer but that year (2015? 2016?) was such an outlier that it should be cast away and forgotten.

Agreed. Don't know if the nomination says more about Grossman or the margin of error for defensive metrics.

Just glancing through the stats on b-r.com, which summarizes him as a liability for the Twins last year but roughly average for the A's this year, and the biggest difference is the A's used him more often in LF while we had him a lot in RF. Maybe something about his skill set works better in Left? I remember this year that Marwin, who has a fine reputation as a left fielder looked brutal for a while when stationed in right. The two positions aren't quite interchangeable for some players, with regard to tracking the ball etc.

Grossman had a very good year with the glove well above his skill level. Those year to year outliers happen with pitchers. They happen at the plate. His performance was real and he deserves consideration.

I wouldn’t bet on him repeating any more than I would bet on Ketel Marte repeating his performance at the plate.

Defensive metrics have a year to year correlation that is not dissimilar from slash stats or ERA. Career years with the glove can happen just as career years happen at the plate and on the mound.
