Red Wings top Pawtucket 9-2
In exhibition play, the Red Wings got three hits from Tsuyoshi Nishioka and Darin Mastroianni. Rene Tosoni drove in two with a double. Aaron Bates drove in two with a single.
Luke French started and gave two runs in 4.2 innings. Jason Bulger gave up two hits in 2.1 scoreless innings. Luis Perdomo threw the final two innings.

Nishi who? I was just beginning to think that it was nothing more than a bad dream. Reality is...he may well find himself attempting to help the team at Target Field at some point in the season so the more confidence he can get the better.

Of course, it's not just hits we need to see from Nishioka. He was inconsistent last year in every aspect of his game, including mental errors like not leaping on a double play turn. A few good days at the plate won't cure that reputation. However, a really solid year in AAA, including lots of clean, sound fielding, would put him back in line as a possible utility man. Unfortunately for Nishi, the Twins have several good short stops rising quickly through the ranks, and some of them could doubtless play second base, too. His best window of opportunity is long gone.
