Sano vs Harrison
with the 2 best 3B hitting prospects in the organization showing they cant handle the defensive duties of 3B, but they can hit.....what do you do with them.
Harrison is actually 5 months older than Miguel & as they go up the ladder, do you keep Harrison a level underneath at all times even if he deserves a promotion because of the position??
Does the organization keep fighting the position changes.....or can they actually keep both on the same roster playin multiple positions & see if which player earns what position???

Everything that I have read makes it seem like Harrison will almost certainly wind up at 1B while there should still be hope, errors or not, of Sano sticking at 3B with a potential move to an OF corner. I think you can make those moves when you are forced to, not any earlier.
I would think Harrison plays out the Appy schedule with a late callup to Beloit, and Sano stays at Beloit until the end. Next year they will start at different levels, and if they ever get to the same level you worry about it then. Of each progress as they should, they might not have an extended time together until the bigs.

Corey Koskie was no great shakes at the hot corner when he first got to the majors. He turned out pretty decent. Give it time.

I think Sano will move faster than Harrison so this isn't a big concern.

Scout say Sano can stick at 3B, with a good arm and good footwork
So even if the errors keep coming, RF is a possiblity. But if the can Mash, who cares what position they end up at?

this is what Im kinda asking. If Harrison earns a promotion before Sano, will he be kept down....despite being older....to avoid sharing a position with Sano?? Couldnt that possibly stunt the growth of Harrison??
Is there more goin on with Sano right now. I get 31 errors but he's still sitting. If it was errors & they wanted him to take a break, why not DH him???

How old are these guys? Both teenagers, correct. So I guess my reaction is, check back in a a couple of years when they both are at least in AA.

Sano just turned 19, lets settle down a bit. There is a difference between a prospect not having the physical tools/ body type to play a position and one who is 19 years old making some errors in low A ball. By all accounts, Sano has the tools to play 3rd, and the most likely reason he would be moved to a corner outfield is if he outgrew 3rd.

There is a misconception that Sano is sitting because of errors. Coincidentally, he sustained a minor injury the same game he had three errors. I heard he is "day to day".

It seems like a reasonable question, given the number of errors. I guess I'd give him another year to see if he can play 3B, but frankly, I would bet good money Sano will be in RF or 1B by AA.
Win Twins.

Too early to switch.
Jeter had 56 errors in A-ball. Luckily for him, it was much harder for outside fans to pay attention. Koskie and Gaetti had error trouble in the minors.
If Sano has the skills that fit with the position, they can stick with him longer. Does Harrison have the skills?

for everyone saying it is too early to switch....when would you switch? If Sano commits an error every other game next year, do you switch? When is the right time?
Win Twins.

No one switches until they can get better instruction in Ft. Myers. After playing in high A and being around better tutors, the organization will have a better feel for their ability to handle 3B down the road.

was wondering if there more to the 'benching' as he could just DH & he's sat.
More of what I am wondering with the post, is does Harrison get kept 'down' because Sano is ahead of him. What if Harrison goes 15-30 over the next wk w/6HRs....that merits a promotion, but would they with Sano blocking him???

no, then you'd have a situation like we currently have in ft. myers where santana and michael split reps at s.s. no one really blocks anyone in the minors, especially in an org like the twins that values positional flexibility.
btw, the premise is off on this argument - harrison is far away from proving anything with his s.s.s. and the twins like to keep their guys in the lower minors for the whole half/full year. see the e-town seasons of arcia, oswaldo and rosario, eddie as exhibits a&b.

He could go 15/30 and hit 6HRs, and he won't get promoted. They didn't bump Sano, Arcia, or Rosario from Elizabethon even though they put up numbers that would have made Pujols jealous. They won't promote Harrison if he does the same. Some of it is SSS, and I'm convinced some of it is simply to let the guy get some confidence before hitting a much more difficult environment in Beloit.

Patience is the key with young players. As teenagers, their bodies are still developing and there will be ups-and-downs at the hot corner. I think the Twins will give them plenty of time to work out the kinks at third base.
