Thread: Wilkin Ramirez

Anyone else notice this guy has been putting on a clinic down in AA NBR since being being promoted?
His line:
AB: 49 Avg: 388 Obp: 412 Slg: .816 Ops: 1.228 HR:4 2B:3 3B:3 only 2 BB but also only 10 SO

Hes got a small ammount of Majors experience in 2009 and 2011 and performed well. He hasnt been the most productive guy with his long resume of minors experience, but im hoping that is just because of the farms he was affiliated with. Maybe the Twins figured something out? At 26 if he can continue to perform this way he could really be an asset in the near future and move up the ladder quickly. He has some power, can get on base and steal. He strikes out a fair ammount but those numbers have reall declined over the last couple of years (especially since joining the twins org.) not the best glove in the OF but serviceable

I loved the signing when I heard about it. He's still young enough to be a semi-prospect. He was a Top 5 prospect of the Tigers just a few years ago. he's only 26. He's been unreal with New Britain, as we would hope. he should move up to Rochester soon.

He should be hitting well in AA. I really do not understand why he was there to begin with. He has a career .270/.349/.459 line in the majors in 43 PA. He is much readier than Thomas/Komatsu/Revere/Tosoni and company... so AA made no sense at all, other than the bottleneck in AAA.

He looks like he's hitting slow-pitch softball at the plate right now.
I was there Thursday (that might have been the game where he hit the 3rd HR of the 4 in 4 games), and he looked like he was playing a little below his skill level.

Maybe. The Twins aren't usually the team to figure something out in a player that other teams couldn't, but if there was an adjustable mechanical flaw they noticed, it could explain why he went to Ft. Myers instead of New Britain or Rochester. The best instructional coaches are in Ft. Myers and they may be the guys to tell him what he needed to work on to fix a hole in his swing, this would also explain why he was only there for 4 games.

Of course if that it is true, the Twins would need to explain why top prospects spend an entire year in Beloit instead of two at Ft. Myers with the better teachers.

More than 3,000 AB's over 9 seasons in the minors with a career line of .260/.316/.440..... is nothing to be excited about.

Oh and on that note arod started seeing major league time when he was 18 and he was a very similar offensively at that age. Only thing sano would need is some better defense which can be learned as he moves up

I suspect they're fairly good at it, actually. Obviously, you'd have to look at all 30 teams (and minor league teams if you really wanted to research it) but the Twins have gotten something out of rule iv and v picks, waiver wire picks ups and minor league free agents. Guys like Santana, Guerrier, Reyes, Buscher, Breslow, Diamond, Mohr, Burton, Kielty and Tyner all fall into those categories and helped the ML squad.

The list of people who would be elated to be mentioned in the same breath as Santana does not start nor stop with Buscher. :-)
