    Anthony Slama

Maybe this has already been said but mr slama has just over 15IP and 26K.. But 10BB.... Anyone know if most those walks were from when he came back from injury? Has he settled down? Because his other stats are looking pretty awesome. I have always liked this kid

Don't know about the walks but I hope he is the next reliever in line for a promotion. Even if they think his stuff is not good enough for the bigs, what do they have to lose by giving him a shot?

He's always had control issues, which is a big reason he hasn't gotten much of a shot in Minnesota (not that Jeff Gray is much of a strike-thrower).

In his last seven appearances: 9 IP, OR, 4H, 0BB, 18K and looks like he's been getting a fair amount of groundballs.

Inherited 2 runners in the bottom of the 8th today(thursday) and gave up a 2 run double for his first blown save. Roch lost 7-6.

I see Esmerling was allowed to pollute the game in the 8th . . . . and also that JOE THURSTON made a crucial fielding error in that inning. Vasquez and Thurston do not belong here.

He actually has three walks during that span, and he handed out six in the three appearances prior, so yeah, the control is a legitimate issue. Still no reason he shouldn't be given an extended look in the bigs. Is there no belief that he could benefit from working with Rick Anderson?

Thurston had the boot in Robertson's only batter. Odd looking line for Robertson, took the loss

I'm confounded by the Twins' lack of advancement for Slama. Maybe he's not a world-beater, but they haven't exactly had a stellar bullpen recently. I'm surprised he didn't latch on with another team when the Twins dropped him from the 40-man.

I think other teams looked at him and his BB/9 ratio and said no way should we pick this guy up. The good thing about Slama is that while he has been giving up walks (because it is impossible not to), he has been keeping the damage from them under control, which is a good thing for a relief pitcher to have. If the Twins were to bring him up from AAA, they would probably drop Tyler Robertson from the 40-man, because of his struggles so far. I am not an expert when it comes to waivers and the 40-man roster, but with how well Slama is doing, to add him back onto the 40-man would involve sending him through waivers, and I would think there is a good chance that another team would grab him.

The Twins still have a 40-man opening.

Robertson is a 24-year-old lefty with 18 career IP at AAA. Waaaaaaay too early to throw him away. The obvious substitution is for Gray (not young, RHP, walks too many, so-so stuff) or Walters after Liriano wins back his rotation spot with 3-4 stellar weeks in the 'pen (you're gonna do that, right Frankie?).

I've been as annoyed with the Twins as anyone about not giving Slama more of an opportunity in the majors. I just don't believe the difference is so large that a guy can be that dominant at AAA and not serviceable in the majors. But it is kind of telling that nobody (not even "progressive" clubs enamored with K/9 ratios) picked him up when he was taken off the 40-man.

Wouldn't the BB problem really only be a problem if he was giving up more hits too? He has kept his WHIP very low even with all those walks. 1.213 is the highest WHIP in his career, and it isn't like those hits are a bunch of homers either.

I would much rather have a least one pitcher who strikes out a lot of guys, even if he walks a bunch too. Giving up a walk is not as bad as giving up a hit.

Twins have also stated that its his ineffectiveness against lefties that has kept him back (as well as the BBs/velocity). Funny how certain things hold back guys & others are overlooked/but still underperform.

He pairs well with Duensing then!
