The Twins minor league system is horrific if there is no one to bring up to replace Marquis or Blacky.
Bill Smith, Terry Ryan, and the entire scouting department should be ashamed!

It's erroneous to conclude that the farm system is horrific based on a (probably pretty valid) perception that we lack MLB-ready starters right now in AAA. It's a problem, but there are strengths too, throughout the system.
Unfortunately, the injury bug continues to make things look even bleaker than they are. If Gibson, Wimmers, Stuifbergen, and Soliman were healthy, if Gutierrez and Waldrop were healthy, if Tosoni and Roberts....this is not an excuse, but if the system were as thin as people suggest, our full-season teams should be struggling to win games to a greater extent than they are.

Agreed that there aren't any 'exciting' guys to bring up from Rochester. Scott Diamond talked about a couple of adjustments he needed to make after last year, the first year he's struggled in pro ball, and through four starts he's sure looking good. If you're just looking for replacements, PJ Walters could come up and pitch as well as those guys. I think Cole DeVries could too.
But I agree with birdwatcher too. There have already been a lot of key injuries, and there are a lot of strengths in the minor leagues too.
That said, when the sell-off begins, Pitching should absolutely be the #1 target!

I dont think the whole minor league system is horrific. The pitching is bad but we have some good bats down there who will help us out down the road (a lot of them were up with the Twins last year) Yes, it would be nice to be able to call up a starter or two to replace these guys. But we already have Hendricks in the rotation and if it wasnt for an injury Gibson would be here too. Scott Diamand pitched ok last year and is off to a good start in AAA.
Pavano, Liriano, Baker could all be gone next year. Hopefully at least 2 of those 3. I'd like to see them pick up a legit starter in the offseason and bring up Gibson if he's ready.
