Kubel is still young at 31-32 and has the potential to hit .280 with 30 HR. I don't think we'd say the same for Parmelee, would we?
Honestly, while it seems unlikely, I could see Parmelee doing that. If you gave me even odds on one of them doing it this season and I had to pick one, I'd probably go with Kubel, but I'd be pretty tempted to go with Parmelee anyway, just due to youth. Kubel seems like he's probably reached his decline phase, meaning he's unlikely to put up a career year at this point. Parmelee has shown flashes of real hitting ability, he just hasn't put it together for a season, yet.
Yeah, the more I think about it the more I think Presley's name should be in black. If Herrmann's on the roster they don't really need him, and he hasn't shown anything this spring.
As I started reading this thread, that was the first thought that crossed my mind. Herrmann obviously is not a great choice for CF, but if he only plays there 10-12 times on the season, he seems to be quick enough to manage it, and with a decent arm. Will it be pretty, probably not, but this season may be pretty ugly, regardless. I wouldn't mind seeing Herrmann get some at bats, anyway, I think he has the potential to be near league-average, and if he could do that backing up all 3 outfield spots, plus catcher and 1B (and 3B?), that's not a bad player to have around.
