I just cancelled my MLB subscription. Here's my email to MLB.

I would like to cancel my subscription and receive a full refund.
It is MLB’s right to be political and uninformed about the GA voting law and change their policy.
However, I have a right to disagree and spend my money on organizations that support the US values of equal voting access and integrity.
If MLB was serious about understanding the law, Manfred should have met the GA governor on the law. It takes five minutes to set up a zoom call.
At least Manfred should have read the law and point out specifically which aspects are not good.
GA law:
- More voting machines in minority areas
- “Partisan free zone” (which includes water & food from partisan groups) in 150 feet from voting poll
- Mandates mail drop off boxes in every voting district
- Adds early voting days on weekends
- “Sign” absentee ballots by using your Voter ID or Driver’s ID instead of your signature (faster to process absentee ballots)
- Free Voter IDs
I live in Florida but I find the MLB quick decision to be politically based and not fact based.

Good for MLB. I'm not going to bother going through a step by step discussion of SarasotaBill's post. Here's a link from the NYTImes that pretty effectively refutes all of those things.

I know some pretty good lawyers who work exclusively on voting rights, including several at the ACLU. Every knowledgeable voice agree on the same thing - the law is designed to reduce the voting power of people of color. That really isn't surprising but it's worth remembering and saying out loud.

If Georgia doesnt like companies using their freedom in a free market to reject blatent racism by their elected officials they could, you know, vote in less racists.

You should find sources outside your usual ones to recap this law.

When you close urban polling places, allow the elderly to early and mail in vote but no one else, and even make it criminal to give waiting voters food and water?

Well....reasonable people can see the real purpose.

except that everything you stated the law does is not true, just some pundits explanation which is far from accurate

The reasons behind requiring that ID are racist. Republicans have been crystal clear. To argue otherwise is to defend the indefensible.

ID’s are not racist to claim they are is totally ridiculous

You should read the link posted earlier by gunnathor and cross check it with news sources that are independent. What I said is accurate and some of those provisions even have Republicans publicly scratching their heads. They exist. They are with the express purpose of aiding Republicans in winning elections by complicating the voting process for black and poor urbanites.

This is simply a fact.Your feelings driven by falsehoods and misinformation dont change that.

Claims of voter fraud are bogus. You know it, we all know it, MLB knows it. Good for them in making this move.

"Biased links." Good lord.

Don't like what the NYT says? Read the Guardian. The Washington Post. Virtually anything that doesn't have the word Fox in it, otherwise you're willing to just be led by the nose.

I'm happy with the MLB decision and will leave it there.

Okay, I have to step in at this point. We have a no politics rule on this site but when MLB enters the political arena, leeway must be made for it.

With that said, STAY CIVIL.

AND BACK UP YOUR ASSERTIONS WITH INFORMATION.

There will be no safe harbor given for insults and rants loaded with falsehoods so think twice before hitting Reply.
