Just saw in the New York Times that Cleveland is dropping the Indians moniker.

No word about to what they might change. Wind Surge seems to already be taken.

Triples are more fun than home runs; stolen bases are more fun than strikeouts; singles are more fun than walks.

The Cleveland Baseball Team.....

Do a real throwback-style name, to the earliest days: The Clevelands. (Post #2 actually fits in with this just fine.)
Look back & be grateful, look ahead & be hopeful, look around & be helpful.

From the NYT article:
"One of the people said Cleveland planned to keep the Indians name and uniforms for the 2021 season while working to shift as early as 2022."
This to me is a cop-out. They currently have jerseys that have "Cleveland" across the front. I don't see why they can't use those for a year until everything else is put in place.

I'll echo my comment from the Wind Surge thread, that teams want to come up with names that are literally unique in the sports world. Hence Mighty Mussels, Blue Wahoos, Trash Pandas, and so forth. I just hope it's something that's not too weird.

Cleveland Spiders is the obvious and best choice, imo. Team history and a unique name!
Not unique. The University of Richmond teams are the Spiders.

The PC culture wins again....what a shame. I totally get removing the Chief Wahoo logo from their uniforms and signage but there is nothing wrong with the word Indians. It's in no way offensive or degrading like the Washington Redskins name was.

I’ve heard that too, can’t remember where, but if changing their name was the best way to disassociate from the mascot, then it seems pretty straightforward. The PC culture wins again....what a shame. It's in no way offensive or degrading like the Washington Redskins name was.

Aren't the ones with Cleveland the gray, away jerseys? I think most teams wear the nickname at home and the city away.

And, of course, "Vikings" is offensive and must go, to say nothing of the "Fighting Irish."

Lebron is from Cleveland. They could be the ‘Bronnies’. Or maybe the Lakers. Or just maybe the ‘Edmund Fitzgerald’s’ finally make it to Cleveland.
They could be the Cleveland Dockers. Or maybe Steamers. So many options.

Cleveland Flats - if you have ever partied in the part of Cleveland called the Flats you would understand. Caveat: I haven't been there in many years so it could all be gone now.

Good for them. Hopefully Atlanta follows suit someday.

The Cleveland Culture Kings.

This news made me surprisingly happy. Good for them. I like the Spiders but I doubt that happens.
