I know he is 35-- but does anyone else think the Twins should inquire about Brandon Inge? He could be offer a veteran presence, spell Plouffe now and then and could be a third catcher that has some pop. I bet $2MM with incentives would get him. We saved all the money we were going to give to Lexi:)

We may have enough veteran presence.

I go back & forth on Inge but the 3rd C option is something that I like EXCEPT Inge hasnt caught since 08 (60gms), before that was 04(39gms) & I get the impression that MN would not consider him a C possibility.
Fans also get the impression that Brandon is a power hitter cause he has hit HRs but he has only slugged .400 once in the last 6 yrs (.406 in 09). He's a low average, HR only, all or nothing type of hitter.
His career .791 OPS vs LHP is what interests me tho (.651 vs RHP). He could be a solid platoon 3B in the right circumstance but Plouffe is a better hitter vs LHP already (.850 career OPS).
He would obviously be a massive defensive upgrade tho & by all accounts is a tremendous clubhouse guy.

At this point in his career Inge is about as much an option at catcher as Willingham. In other words probably an emergency option somewhere between Carroll and Morneau (who was drafted as a catcher).

Twins need to be in a youth movement. Poof has big problems, but if he can continue to hit HRs--he becomes trade bait, maybe evn for pitching!

Inge can put Butera-like numbers for 5 times the cash. No, thank you!

i would thinnk that he could catch an inning or two on occassion. I don't think a third catcher will catch as much as Butera did last year, but something more like 1 to 3 innings a game every so often. he probably would catch around 50-80 innings over the course of the season, and be a back up defensive specialist and occaisional starter at 3rd and ocaisanally back up 1B and pinch hitter in interleague play. Sure he could do that. I was thinking 2 million but he could come cheaper as there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of interest in him.

I would rather have Thome coming off the bench or being a part-time DH, sadly. Plouffe, letting his hand heal, if he can improve defense, is just as good as having an Inge, or Wiggington or even Kourmoff (whatever). He has some punch. As long as he hits homers...and looks to improve...I'd run him out there 130+ games. Hermann can become Inge for a fraction of the cost, if need be...but might be a year away.

The best summation so far of Inge at this point of his career. There is a lot of nonsense being written this week

I just don't gets Twins fans obsession with Inge. He can't hit for average, except against the Twins, and is not good at 3B.

With Inge we are talking about a benh player who gets 150-200 AB in a season. He plays good D and won't get too much playing time unless Plouffe regresses or gets hurt. He wouldn't be the worst option to play a few weeks if Plouffe gets hurt. Plus he may cost alot less like in in 800k to 1.5 million range. thats is not a bad depth move. I dont think he will platoon but he will push Plouffe to stay sharp.

On the bench right now we have Mastroianni, and one of Floriman, Dozier, or Carroll. Inge would allow us to get rid of Butera and add another bench player likeThome or Gomes out of Oakland.

Mastroianni is of defense and speed, Inge is Defense at corners and 3rd C, MI is MI, and then we get a Bat, preferably one who can fill in defensively too. that is a good bench.

Inge is a plus defender at an unessential defensive position and can't hit much over his weight. Please don't tie up a 40 man spot on him, please. If anything, get an adequate defender to compete at 3rd who hits right handed pitching well.

Should'a gone fishing
