Angels have had poor (indeed tragic) luck with their pitching acquisitions. Perhaps Mejia will help them. Good luck to him, just not when we face him.

I can explain it for you, but I can't understand it for you.

Not a huge surprise. The Angels needed starting pitching before Skaggs passed away and need it worse now. He's worth a flier, although picking up Bard last year not working out so well.

Is this fixed now or do the Twins have a chance to still make a trade?

It’s been exactly 7 days since Mejia was DFA. My guess is that the minute the trade period ended he was claimed.

Waivers always last for 3 days, regardless of how quickly anyone puts in a claim. At the end of the 3 day period, the player is assigned to whatever team claimed him with the highest waiver priority.

The DFA period is a max of 7 days. So given that you need 3 days for the waiver period, you basically have up to 4 days to work out a trade, and if that fails, you put him on waivers.

Thanks for explaining the timing of Designation for assignment and waivers.

For some reason i had 10 days and 3 days in my head.

Do they have to place them on waivers if they don't care about assigning them to a minor league team? Or that would be an outright release, and they would have to say that up front, and can't decide to do so at day 5 of the DFA period?

They'd still have to put him on waivers. Only after clearing waivers could they release him.

Thanks!

So waivers pretty much always happen.

it was 10 days until recently, I believe with the change to the length of IL stints
