I’m kind of disappointed in that Snopes article, actually.... Kind of reads like an industry spokesperson wrote it. As if such a thing is utterly impossible...

We’re not gonna lose Snopes, too, are we?

If only someone would take the time to track these things...

Bases empty: OPS .724

Men on: OPS .795

Just 4 of his 13 HR have been solo.

I'm sure it's possible to pick apart his performance. His BA with RISP is only .194 for example. But, compare him with RISP to, say, Nelson Cruz - in 74 such PA he has accumulated 23 RBI, while Cruz has 25 RBI in 73 PA even with a BA above .300 - hard to see a lot of daylight between these two batters in terms of getting the runners home.

I guess I should say Schoop is the last player I want to see at the plate when it's a close game late.

Well, lots of folks are ready to hand second to Arráez, but I say pump the brakes, people. For one thing Snopes is a really solid defensive second baseman, and for another, Arráez has no power. None.

Thorpe having a Pavano like career is near the very top of the spectrum of likely outcomes, and would be a huge success.

Hopefully, a Pavano like career earnings as well for the Thorpe family's sake!

It's not a RISP thing with Schoop, it is a leverage thing. He's had three games this year where he hit two homers, the scores of those games were 18-4, 16-7, and 14-8. If memory serves, all of those homers were hit when the Twins were already up by a touchdown or more. Add in a two-run shot in a 9-1 game and we have 7 homers and 18 RBI in games that were out of reach. Without the hitting in blowouts, Schoop has about a .700 OPS with 6 homers and 16 RBI. I realize almost everyone does better in low-leverage situations and that the sample sizes are small, but Schoop in particular has fattened up his stats this year in lopsided wins.
