I notice it every time I go to a game but never know why it happens. Starting around the 7th or 8th inning, security comes out between innings and lines the foul territory of either side of the diamond, facing the crowd. What's going on here?

Fans running onto the field proliferate in the late innings. Alcohol induced, which takes awhile to build up to.

Security does come out every inning, just not as many, especially down the foul lines, which, because of netting, is now about the only place you can hop onto the field.

I don't know for sure, but I would guess it's pretty much standard procedure at all ballparks.

You could always jump over the railing onto the field, and run over to the security guards and ask them. :)
