It's a lot of money.

But compared to revenue in the sport, and Trout's position among players in the sport, and the relative stability of position players (as compared to pitchers, or, say, football players), it doesn't seem outlandish.

Would anyone have predicted Trout would get less than 10/360 in free agency in 2 years?

No, but 360 million is pretty absurd too.I don't think the adjectives people are using are meant to describe the decision to do this, only to describe the actual pile of money changing hands.

As a guy now living in LA , I love that Trout stayed in town. Great player, great guy. The Angels keep trying to get better but they have had brutal injury luck with young starting pitchers.Garett Richards, Andrew Heaney and Tyler Skaggs all have the talent to be top 2 starters on a good team and all have had elbow problems. Tropeano is a good #4 or 5 and even he had shoulder problems last year. Heaney and Skaggs are back this year, still having issues, same for Tropeano. The team itself is pretty good although burdened with playing the corpse of Albert Pujols. They finally have some talent in the minors so you can see them contending for a Wild Card as early as this year and certainly by next year.

By the way, looks like Luke Bard will make the bullpen for the Angels. he's pitching well this spring.
