Classy way to send off Mauer. Well done everyone.

A really fitting, emotional last game, a great last AB and sentimental defensive substitution, two little girls at home and another child on the way. It's hard to believe that he'll be back.If he does comeback, that'll really show how great his love for the game is.

I cannot imagine any scenario where he plays another game for a different team.

I agree, it would be very un-Joe.I think he's done.

I am glad that we were able to share this through a game thread.

I am wishing Joe all the best, along with our fellow Twins fans who have contributed to game threads.

Trevor May looks like he has a future in the closer role. 12.6 K/9 looks solid, and his 1.8 BB/9 is a career low. His demeanor on the mound is pretty solid as well. I heard the teammates call him Lurch, which is pretty hilarious.

I regret that I was pulled away and couldn't watch the game. I'd hate to meet the Twins fan who wasn't moved by the highlights I've now caught up on.

I'm with those who have already mentioned that it would have been very un-Joe-like to announce the retirement early and have every road trip turned into a farewell tour. My guess is that he decided at least a month or two ago that this would be it.

The kid and I watched the first half of the game and then listened to it on the radio enroute to my parents'. Pulled up to their house just before the top of the ninth. We stopped to talk to the next door neighbors in their yard for a minute and then, quite alarmingly, my parents' door flew open and my dad came running out of the house.

My dad is 83. The last time I saw him run, George Bush was president. No, not that one. His dad, H.W.

He yelled to me only that 'Mom says come quick!', waving us inside and urging us to hurry. Mom is 80, and the way my dad sounded, it suddenly wasn't looking good for 81.

But when we got inside, she was sitting there silently, staring at the television with the volume turned way up, just pointing at the screen as Mauer strode to the plate in his catcher's gear.

We all watched it together. Nobody spoke until it was over.

How remarkable that a seemingly forgettable season would end with a moment that ranks among the most memorable in the history of the Minnesota Twins.

If that was the send off it was very nice!Joe had a great presser after and I'm glad they televised it.Interesting, yet I don't think he's made up his mind yet.

They hold him as emotional a Going Away party as you'll ever see, and he's still waiting to hear back from HR as to whether he's accrued enough hours to satisfy Social Security yet?

Oh, I don't think so. :)

And that even factors in that one “opener” game when he walked like 3 guys.

It would be weird for a guy like Mauer to put the catching gear back on and than decide he's coming back.I honestly don't know what to think if does come back.

Don't expect to build up the weak by pulling down the strong.
