One of the better beat reporters for the Twins. Gonna miss him.

He had good insights/connections but I never much cared for him so I'm ok.

He seemed like the most balanced Twins journalist. On the scale of being a complete homer and being eye-rollingly critical, Berardino seemed to be really good at staying on the fulcrum.

Easily the best Twins beat writer, ran rings around the STRib guys. Sorry to see him go.

Too bad. Both in terms of getting facts out and developing the personal and emotional aspects of a story, he was the team's best beat writer in my memory.

I hate Notre Dame, and like Mike's writing, so this is doubly painful for me.....

I remain hopeful on Buxton and Sano.....but I'd not bet the franchise on them.

He's by far the most informative writer at one of the local papers but his demeanor always rubbed me the wrong way for some reason. Just doesn't seem to be a friendly person.

Huge loss, in my opinion.

After Lou Holtz did good things with the Gophers and moved on to Notre Dame, so will Berardino.

I hope his replacement is decent, because contributing in any way to the existence of the startribune is not an option for me.

I hope whoever replaces Berardino doesn't come in and write fluff pieces like Dan Hayes at the Athletic.

He seemed like the most balanced Twins journalist. On the scale of being a complete homer and being eye-rollingly critical, Berardino seemed to be really good at staying on the fulcrum.

In addition to that delicate positive/negative balance, he also seemed pretty adept at working about the right amount of stat-based material into his writing, keeping the eyes of the casual part of his audience from glazing over but not giving it a dumbed down vibe for Fangraphs weirdos like me.

Wish him well in his new endeavor. Despite his destination.

Also sad: this is a pretty clear indication that despite being a professional franchise, the Twins are below some (probably lots of) college football teams in the sports hierarchy.

It's a lot more complicated than this -- but I'll leave it at that.

Distressing news to me because Mike has been a tremendous mentor and role model on the beat.

But for him personally, I'm always going to root for him and am glad he's making this leap.

Bernardino was not only good, he was prolific. Meaning he was industrious. As much as I have a disdain for fluff, I have a bigger problem with the seeming lack of energy, courage, and curiosity I sense as present with the Strib group.

Or the Pioneer Press is below @IndyStarSports, whatever the heck that is.

Either interpretation is a sign of the apocalypse.
