With Castro out for the season, do the Twins roll with Garver/Wilson, or should they look to upgrade?  Should they make a run at Realmuto?

If they're going to go after someone it had better be someone who's better than Garver. If you're going to go through the effort to make a move, it had better be Realmuto as the catcher of the future. Otherwise we're just getting a platoon guy to give Garver days off. And that in my opinion is a waste.

I think Realmuto is a real option now. I'd see if a small package revolving around Littell gets it done.

Swihart from Boston would be a good backup C. It's time to see if Garver can handle the job full-time.

Realmuto is going to be expensive....

I think they should definitely try to find a guy they can rotate Garver with. I'd much rather have Wilson in AAA as the 3rd catcher, but I don't think a trade is coming anytime soon. Maybe in June?

Another thought- Swihart requested a trade yesterday. He may be a great Change Of Scenery candidate.

He's out for the season? If true, he's not going to be much help next year either. If true, is certainly be trying to get a catcher in trade. They supposedly have a very deep farm system, this is why you have depth.. .

There's always next year, or the next, or maybe by the time I'm Chief's age, I guess....

So he goes from Day to Day, To Surgery and 4-6 weeks Tops, to out for the season?

I'm beginning to worry a leg amputation may be coming next week if this trend continues. ...

MLB.com and MLB Trade rumors are both reporting that Castro is out for the season.

Wow. Like I predicted in the trade threads, it wouldn't be soon. Very sad to be right. If they don't make a deal, I have to continue to question their ability to run this team.

That perception is not true. They got real value back in the Yelich and Ozuna trades. Stanton was a salary dump but they could have received much more if they were willing to pony up a penny on their end of the Stanton contract.

It's not like they're giving away players for free.

I'd be interested in Realmuto but might say no after seeing the demands. I'm Ok with Garver getting a shot every day; as much flack as he's gotten for his defense, the pitchers have been better since he's taken over. He might not be the reason for the turn around, but thus far any deficiencies haven't appeared to be a significant factor.

If not Realmuto and if the team absolutely has to have a known commodity, maybe Wellington Castillo? Surely the White Sox are ready to sell.

Realmuto would be #1 on any list but it won't happen. Dodgers have some depth there and suck this year. But realistically, there aren't that many good catchers. Garver has been ok (100 OPS+) and isn't Ryan Doumit behind the plate.

I'd like to upgrade Wilson for sure - we have a thread already on Swihart - but I'm not sure we'll get a catcher better than Garver.

IIRC there are two losses already directly contributed to by Garver's defense.

I don't think he's any kind of every day answer, and obviously Bobby Wilson is a stopgap at best.
