He grounded into a double play tonight, and no longer has a seasonal BABIP of 1.000: Ryan LaMarre, you are dead to me. :)

Ryan LaMarre, you are dead to me. :)

I take it back. The additional playing time changes things. As of this morning, among position players with a seasonal BABIP higher than .750 (he's at .889), if his season ended right now, Ryan LaMarre would have the #1 quantity of plate appearances with 15, nosing out the aforementioned Bill Hall at 14. It's not the same record (BABIP threshold 1.000) as before, so I'm guilty of moving the goalposts, nevertheless Ryan currently holds an all-time top MLB spot at something. Woo hoo!

OK, OK, this thread is Fun with numbers, not Torture. I'll stop now. (Too late, I know.)

Somehow, the Twins have been shut out only once this season but have shut out the opposition four times.

The Indians are in first place with not only a loosing record but the eighth best record in the AL. The Twins are second ,half game back, with the ninth best record in the league.

Fun With Numbers - Schedule Edition

The Twins do not have home games on....

Opening Day

Mothers Day

Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day

Fathers Day

Independence Day

Labor Day Weekend

Labor Day

Literally, that's every day that matters from a ticket sales perspective.

What did the Twins do to piss off the schedule makers?

Not Twins-related, but still fascinating. Chris Davis is playing at an all time worse level of baseball.

In 1931 Earl Webb had 659 plate appearances and hit 67 doubles, which is still the major league record for doubles in a season. That's roughly one double every 9.8 PA's.

Eduardo Escobar currently has 26 doubles in 250 plate appearances, one every 9.6 trips to the plate.

Looks like two years later Webb was out of baseball. Seems risky to offer Escobar a long term deal, now that I know this.

The Twins have been above .500 after 11 games this season. They have been at least 5 games below .500 after 24 games.

The top 5 pitchers for the Twins this year in K/9 are:

Busunitz (15.75)

Curtiss (13.50)

Presly (12.69)

Kinley (10.80)

Moya (10,80)

Okay, in most cases, that's a small sample size, but ...yikes!

Petit was DFAd with an average over .300. How often does that happen?
