2.5m? Wow. That puts payroll at about 107m.

I would imagine the FO is using him as a stop gap until Gonsalves and Romero are ready or to hold the fort until Santana comes back. I'd be stunned if he makes more than 10 starts for us. I think this also means we're unlikely to land Lynn or Cobb.

This should really help move the bar...5.67 ERA since the start of '15...and done reading the article.

Why? Aren’t we supposed to try to contend this year? A MLB deal? Would have rather had Edinson Volquez, who just signed a minor league deal.

Is this the Jason Marquis(esque) signing we've all been waiting for?  If all he is is a stop gap for 4-6 starts for Santana, then either DFA'd or long man in the bullpen, fine. If he's literally anything else, barf.

I can be a little hyperbolic at times, but I'm pretty sure this signing might be the worst move they could have made.

Major league contract....WHY!

Sanchez literally has been the worst SP in baseball over the last three years, no? no?

They are paying him 2.5 million dollars, I doubt the plan is to keep him around for 5 starts at 500k a start.

It’s hard to see the positive vision behind this signing. For the last two years, all of his pitches, except his change, have been bad and his velocity has gone down. He can’t be part of a future plan, so he must be for the present. Maybe they consider the money to be so small that they won’t miss it if they let him go, but now they may need to cut someone else from the 40-man. The only reason it could make sense is if they think he’s better than Slegers and they want him around only for the time Santana is out. Even then, however, I would have preferred the Garcia deal.

Well, if you like xFIP, he was about as good as Berrios and Gibson last year ...

Honestly, he might be a bit better with a better OF defense than he was in Detroit. Not sure that'll be enough to fix the rest but he gets strike outs and limits the walks. He gives up too many home runs (that'll be a problem at TF) but Detroit had some truly bad outfields behind him as well. He had something like a .350 babip last year.

Word is that new pitching Guru Garvin Alston has spotted a major flaw with Sanchez' mechanics over the past three seasons. The belief is that if they can get him to breathe through his eyelids and hold the ball like an egg, all will be cured.

Fingers crossed!

No, you’ve got it all wrong. The flaw is that he insists on aging.

I don't understand why it's not an MiLB deal. Did they just have to have him that badly?
