Football contracts aren't guaranteed anyway. Give him what he wants, cut him later if it's not working out.He should at the very worst make it through two years, which would gobble up any of the guaranteed money and leave the Vikings off the hook if he is cut. Football doesn't have to worry about the back end of contracts sinking the ships.

Interesting development. Maybe this indicates they're going for Cousins.

Good.Get it done, front-load the contract, and draft Billy Price with your first pick.

That's exactly what I would do as well.First three rounds should be OL, DL and DB.

Yup, I think you can get a nice edge-rusher in the second round this year. Not a plug and play star, but a guy like Danielle Hunter you can spot early on and train to be an every down guy.

Depth on big corners is good this year too.

Which is all the more reason to say screw it and go for Cousins.

Teddy's contract didn't toll, and he will become a free agent.

I don't know how else you can read this without thinking they're clearing the deck for Cousins.

Vikings didn't have any say in that.

I also don't understand how that decision was reached.

There was a lot of grey area in that whole situation. I'm fine with him exploring his options.

Teddy for all we know is plan B if they fail to sign Cousins.

My understanding is that when there is a grey area in a CBA, it is normally interpreted narrowly in a way that favors the side that didn't add the language. It's assumed that the side protected by the clause is the one that added it.

In this case, the owners would have added the clause that allowed them toll the contract if a player was physically unable to perform for a certain amount of time. As the Bengals found out with A.J. McCarron, being physically unable to perform is not necessarily the same as being on the PUP list.

Bridgewater (and/or his agent) had already had already said he was able to play at some point before he came off the PUP. It sounds like the Vikings saw the writing on the wall and decided not to pursue that fight, either to avoid alienating Teddy or because they just weren't all that interested in bringing him back. (I'm guessing it's the former.)

Man, the more stories I read, the more I think this is happening with Cousins.

Signing an elite QB to put the final piece of the puzzle in place? That setup is a whole new way of being disappointed as a Vikings fan!

I'm on board with Cousins I guess. Clearly the best option.

But wasn't there a graphic during every Washington prime time game that kept showing Kirk Cousins was 0-11 or whatnot in prime time games?

Until last year, prime time games have typically been a bit of a bugaboo for this franchise.

If not for Cleveland, I'd have no trouble saying Washington is the most dysfunctional organization in the NFL.

I think it says a lot about him that he persevered through that swamp.

So ... he's already a Viking in his heart. There has never been a season where this team did not choke.

So Keenum and Brees are officially off the table; it's Cousins or bust now.

It's going to be ugly if he goes against what everyone is thinking and takes the slightly higher payday from the Jets.

NFL free agency won't be the same again if Cousins receives a fully guaranteed contract.

I'm sure agents for Aaron Rodgers, Matt Ryan, Carson Wentz, and Deshaun Watson are salivating thinking of the fully guaranteed money they're going to make very soon.

A total Vikings move is Cousins getting injured for the season when he's been the most durable QB in the league previously.

Yeah, a nice side effect of this deal is that the Packers might have to break the bank for Rodgers. It'd be great if the Vikings can absorb Cousins' deal and retain the guys they need to while GB still has salary concerns even though they have almost no players of relevance after Rodgers and his aging WR corps.

But only a three year deal might mean that a sit-and-wait QB from the draft is in play any year now. Though maybe Kyle Sloter is someone they really like.
