I would figure Buddy Boshers will be the first removed from the 40 man roster. After that you can go to Gabriel Moya, Aaron Slegers, & Tyler Kinley.

To be honest could just as well make Tyler Kinley the first sacrificial lamb cut from the roster. Why waste a roster spot on a rule 5 pitcher.

I don’t want to rain on this parade, but this has to mean theyre out of the running for Darvish. This team isn’t going to have a $135M payroll.

Too Cold for anyone to be raining on the parade...it could happen

This signing could mean Duffey spends some time in Rochester to see if he can stretch out to be a starter?
And I really hope this doesn’t mean the team is out on Darvish.

I just took a look in TD's Offseason Handbook and couldn't find even a mention of Addison Reed. Oopsie?

We couldn't afford fire alarms, so Dad hung Jiffy Pop over the doors.

I would guess that the order would have been out on Darvish sign Reed rather than we just signed Reed now we don’t have money for Darvish.

The additions of Reed, Rodney and Duke add nicely to the bullpen at minimal commitment.

The Hughes contract sure stinks without that it would be a lot easier to sign a top pitcher.

Not much next year, money to sign Harper!!! funny thought.

If you don't know where you are going, you might wind up someplace else.

I hope you’re right. I’d much rather see the Twins send a few prospects and someone from our now-overpacked middle relief crew to Tampa Bay for Archer. Or wait on another starter this season and find a better deal on a top of the rotation guy for 2019.

I don't think that us signing Reed doesn't mean we can't sign Dervish. We could back load or mid load the contract for instance

Have a stronger bullpen has to be attractive for Darvish. I know I would love it if I had Buxton behind me and these guys coming in if I got in trouble. Is it true that insurance could cover portion of Hughes? Could we trade him to a team along with international money to take the contract off our hands?

I made much the same signing in OOTP. Makes this extra fun for me.

May not mean much, but clearly there's a working relationship between the agency and the Twins.

The Twins have so much payroll coming off the books next year, that I think they can structure a deal with Darvish so that it doesn't balloon payroll to such an extent this season.

I got him for Brian Duensing a few years back. Didn't even have to add a sweetener; Duensing WAS the sweetener.

When all are healthy...

Rodney, Reed, Duke, Hildenberger, Rogers, Pressly might be the first 6.

Busenitz is a good fit for the seventh spot. He has options. Instead of going to 13 pitchers when the pen is exhausted they can send out Busenitz and call up Curtiss or maybe Chargois.

I had the exact opposite inkling - signing Reed could make them more attractive to Darvish or other top starters.

It seems like a great signing, in terms of talent, years and money. Almost too good to pass up. If I’m the GM, I take this deal and figure out the future when it arrives.

This is a big surprise. It must have just fallen in their lap, with the Midwest thing. Is he married/wife from Midwest?

Wade Davis signed for 17mm....per year! To get Addison Reed for two years for less than that total was brilliant.

I don’t think the Twins are out on Darvish. This is a huge opportunity to land the top FA pitcher. No other big spenders are playin this year, and the Twins have a window of competitiveness opening up now, with lots of payroll wiggle room, especially starting in 2019. Add in the Levine connection, too.

Honestly, I think the Twins are the favorite to sign Darvish, not out. I can’t believe I’m saying that, but I think it’s true.

Yeah, this looks like a pretty incredible deal. Reed is three years younger than Davis, and here are their numbers the past three years combined:

Davis

169.1 IP

4.3 WAR

1.65 ERA

1.00 WHIP

3.19 K:BB

3.05 SIERA

Reed

209.2 IP

4.5 WAR

2.66 ERA

1.10 WHIP

4.64 K:BB

3.14 SIERA

I think their performance is a lot closer than a lot of people would've guessed, and I love that huge advantage Reed has in K:BB ratio. Straight up, of course you'd take Davis over Reed, but on the deals they signed Reed is the much better value in my eyes.
