They absolutely should be looking at bullpen arms.

I don't know, it is a site to discuss sports, not airline safety.....maybe we should take it less seriously?

Here's MLBTR keeping track of players who have cleared waivers:

https://www.mlbtrade...le-waivers.html

Only reliever right now is AJ Ramos, and no realistic SP yet.

MLBTR had another article about the Braves putting Jim Johnson and R.A. Dickey on waivers, and I didn't hear about a claim on them yet, so perhaps the above list needs an update?

They absolutely should add a bullpen arm (or two), I wonder if they have the guts to do it.

It would create interesting discussions around the league, I'd think, and elsewhere, about their decisiveness.

My first reaction is absolutely not!!! Let the young players play, especially the bullpen guys. They need to see what they have. Yet on the other hand, its beneficial for all of the young players, both position and pitching wise, to learn how to win.

Let August play out, one week of good play doesn't mean much.

yes, meaning he passed through waivers without anyone claiming him. No one wants that albatross contract without getting a discount.

I'd take Verlander and his current contract over Jake Arrieta's and his next contract

We can trade Reed, Slegers Curtis and Garver and anybody else we don't plan on calling up :banghead:

They made multiple trades based on one bad week of play leading up to the deadline...

With Verlander, the salary is part of it.  But he also has a full no-trade clause, which means he can refuse any waiver claim as well as any trade.

But I also don't think the Tigers are going to give him up for nothing, unless they knew he was hurt (and teams don't get to review medicals before making a waiver claim). Assuming he's healthy, the Tigers would probably want to eat some salary and get good prospects in return right now. If not, they can hold on to him and try again next year (competing themselves and/or shopping Verlander again).

Is Kate part of it also? that could help sell tickets on the chance she might show up?

(I started this Verlander talk as a joke)

Twins bullpen the last 30 days:

3.77 ERA
9.2 K/9
2.2 BB/9
50% GB rate
11% SwStr rate

I'd look into relief help, but I'd be careful about who it displaces, too. Busenitz? Sure. Pressly? No way.

There is no doubt I would make a call on Verlander and see how much salary they would eat and what their demands were for prospects. He would definitely upgrade the rotation and we have Mauer's salary coming off the books next year. Would probably be safer than giving Arrieta a huge contract. Summer is so much more enjoyable when the Twins are relevant in August!

Purge what you can from the 40 man, call up some young arms, and let it fly.

If they make the postseason, great. If they don't, oh well, it was probably fun to watch anyway.
