To re-iterate: Stewart and Lux are OFF the table for the 3rd part of the trade.

Am I to assume DeLeon and Alvarez are the first two players?

It feels like the trade is close with these two off the table. It seems like it's getting really narrowed down.

Based on where Lux & Stewart sit in their organizational rankings, I suppose that rules out Calhoun too.  I like him as an OF in a year or two.  His low whiff numbers and big power in a little package interest me.

How about Sheffield?

If Alvarez and De Leon are the first two pieces than I think someone more like Sborz (#15 on mlbpipeline) or Rhame.Rhame looks to be a Reed-like reliever while Sborz has controll issues but could be a mid-rotation starter if it all breaks right.

I've also always been a fan of Austin Barnes.

I think I read someplace Barnes has already been named as the Dodgers backup catcher this year. Doubt he would be in a deal.

Sheffield seems like a reasonable third piece to go after. He has enough issues (health, control, good chance of ending up in the bullpen) that he isn't a top end prospect, but he does have very good upside.

If they can't get Sheffield then the next option would be to get a lottery ticket type player (Heredia or Abdullah for example) along with a 4th prospect (Mitch White?).

If I were the Twins, I'd ask for Keibert Ruiz ©, Ronny Brito (OF) or Imani Abdullah (RHP) as my third piece lottery ticket. I think DaveW already suggested the Dodgers are balking at players like that though. All are 19 or younger, so the Dodgers shouldn't think it would affect their current window at all.

I still question exactly how motivated the Twins are to make this trade. They should be asking for a lot for Dozier – at least two near MLB-ready starters. De Leon is one. Alvarez is not - he's at least two years from breaking into the majors.

Jordan Sheffield is equally as far-out as Alvarez. Yes, these two might end up being in the Twins rotation in two or three or four years, but there are no guarantees.

I just don't think this deal is as close as many others think it is. I would hate for the Twins to have to 'settle' for players they just don't want to get one or two players they do want.

I also like Barnes but think he is also considered too good for a third piece. It seems like the Dodgers want those pieces to be 20-25 guys (based on Dave's relayed info).

Ronny Brito is actually a SS.

Why was the other thread locked just to start an identical one? I don't get it. Nothing has happened. I haven't commented in this but whether it's true or not, the underlying info is the same as the OP, sans the incorrect timeline.

Personally, I'm glad for the new thread. It's cumbersome to have to go through all those pages to see if someone has responded to your thread.
