Buxton's MLB average BABIP is .314.This season is .200.He will get better just because of that (if indeed gets balls in play).

Well, part 1 you already alluded to: He's striking out too much to really be contributing much.

Part 2 though, not all balls put in play are created equal. He's only hit 4 line drives all season long. I'd actually say he's relatively lucky to even have a .200 babip with only 4 line drives. Even Mauer who is struggling quite a lot right now has 15.

I don't know, it is a site to discuss sports, not airline safety.....maybe we should take it less seriously?

Interestingly, that video is from his DBacks days-- before he "figured it out." To me, his leg-kick looks comically high in that video on all of his swings, causing him to fall forward and lose all power generated from his hips.

Long article on Dozier:

Dozier goes to bed with wife every night and ...does Rubik's cubes.

God I hope that's a euphemism.

9:49 Dansby Swanson and Byron Buxton are tied for worst position player's at this point with -0.6. How surprising is this? Which surprised you more? And which do you think will end the season higher?

Jeff Sullivan
9:50 Swanson is definitely the bigger surprise. We've seen Buxton do this before. Because of that, I think Swanson has the better chance of finishing higher. Buxton just seems lost. Swanson seems like he's struggling for the first time

9:54 Should Jose Berrios be in the Twins' rotation right now?

Jeff Sullivan
9:55 That depends entirely on their internal evaluation -- they have their reasons for his being in Triple-A, and they have things they're looking for. If and when they're satisfied, it shouldn't be hard for him to step in for Mejia

I think he spelled Gibson wrong.

I think he might have spelled Hughes wrong, but it's six of one, really.

Edit: either way, Mejía hasn't pitched himself out, and even if he were marginally worse, he's the longer-term piece with at least as much upside as the others.

ESPNs Mark Simon on early pitching success.

First two parts are on new catchers and better defense, which have been covered well, but last part of article has some good nuggets.

Big takeaway is Twins are #1 team in pitches to inner third and off the corner, and #6 to top of zone. Will be interesting to see if a new strategy and execution can improve performance long term.

Not Twins-related, but a fascinating read on Fangraphs nonetheless.

I'm not surprised teams are emphasizing club seats and suites.

He doesn't mention it, but Target Field definitely benefitted from a land constraint in the construction. Doesn't seem to suffer quite as much from the same problems he cites in other stadiums.

I wonder if we can't have our cake and eat it too. There are some pretty crazy cantilevered structures out there- the Guthrie for example.

Well, there's that.

There's a lot to like about Target Field. Land constraint, location, mass transit all around.

While reading the article, I was thinking the same thing. Target Field doesn't feel cramped but it feels much smaller than many other parks I've visited, which leads me to believe it's a bit more vertical in design.

If you visit the source of those cross-sections:

http://www.andrewcle...m_profiles.html

You can compare Target Field.  Doesn't look like it compares too favorably with the examples from the article.

Fortunately, migrating down from the upper deck is eminently feasible these days. :)
