Regardless if the ball hit the dirt or not... Vargas battled back very impressively from 3-0 against Mauer. Each pitch was about perfect.

What's the point of having replay if that Mauer play can't be checked?  It's nearly impossible for the home plate umpire to see it hit the dirt, that's by far my toughest call...but you have to have something in place where that can be reviewed.  And then, why does that minor league misfit toss Gardy?  He didn't say anything wrong.

Doesn't excuse Mauer for swinging at such a crap pitch.

That's a good point... If they are going to review... That should be reviewed.

I don't ever recall Hammer trying for the extra base with the Twins.

I thought Perez caught Mauer's foul tip cleanly, but the replay was inconclusive.

And maybe him getting out there is why.

It took a perfect throw... The best teams push it. The worst teams get called out.

Fine use of emotion with those exclamation marks, GCTF! :)

I was scolded yesterday for my lack of exclamation marks. Plus Gardy was coming through loud and clear on the radio broadcast.

This isn't coed softball! A non revere center fielder needs to make that throw every time!

Bad at-bat for Plouffe. Pretty good one for Parm.

I will also say I believe the rule of thumb is that you never make the first or third out at third base
