USATSI_7942935.jpg On the MLBNetwork Radio this afternoon, Twins manager Ron Gardenhire provided an update to rookie shortstop/center fielder Danny Santana's rehab process since incurring a deep bone bruise while running the bases in Anaheim on June 23.

"He's feeling good," Gardenhire told Power Alley's Mike Ferrin and Jim Duquette."He's got an impingement, but he's doing some therapy in the pool, he told me yesterday he is feeling good."

Santana is currently on the 15-day disabled list and was placed on it on June 27 prior the Texas series. If ready, he will be eligible to come off on July 11 as the Twins are in Denver, just three games before the All-Star Break.

In his limited time, Santana has been an offensive catalyst for the team while learning a new position at the major league level. Among rookies with a minimum of 140 plate appearances, his .360 weighted on-base average ranks behind just Chicago's Jose Abreu and Houston's George Springer while his .366 OBP leads all rookies.

I'd guess they use the extra time around the ASB before taking him off.
Lighten up Francis....

I wonder what the plan is for his return. Since he'd just be able to play in the 3 games in Colorado, should they send him on a rehab stint before then for 3-4 games in Rochester? or, should they be extra cautious with the young man and have him just come back after the All Star break?

What do you think?

So far he's only running in the pool, though.

Until he's running on land, I'm not sure anyone can make predictions on a return date. Wasn't it when he touched a base that it really hurt him (not just 1st base on that last night but I think he said he had noticed it another time when he touched base)?

I'd love to have him back for that series in Colorado (if healthy of course). My feeling is that series will set the tone for the 2nd half, even if the Twins are struggling prior to that.
He is the key player on our roster, IMHO.

I think I'd rest him until after the ASG - caution with a kid doing this well is something I strongly endorse.

A bone bruise is tough. I would make sure he can play before activating him, sending him for rehab first. That way, if he isn't quite ready, you can continue him on the DL without re-setting the clock. Let him rest during the ASG break, after a short rehab.
