    @_2244 - q I didn't take it as being "out of line", you were explaining your viewpoint, which though maybe misguided, is perfectly fine and what these discussions are about!

    Not quite I think that TK got so sick and tired of Davis (and Atherton in lesser extend) that the Twins went out and got an All Star closer with 100+ saves under his belt for the 1987 season (Jeff Reardon.) When the Twins got Aguilera in mid '89 with the Viola trade, he was the Mets RH set up man and occasional closer, but since Reardon was still with the club and Aggie wanted to start the Twins let him start for the remaining of the season and let him be the closer next season after Reardon left... but you are correct, Aggie had less that 10 career saves before he joined the Twins.
