We'll play with what we've got now.

    C - Mauer/Doumit/Hermann
    1B - Parmalee/Colabello/Mauer
    2B - Dozier ( Rosario in mid-summer)
    3B - Plouffe ( Sano in mid-summer)
    SS - Florimon/Dozier
    LF - Willingham/Arcia
    CF - Hicks/Presley
    RF - Parmalee/Arcia/Hermann
DH - one of the above

I doubt any FA will be a starter. I doubt Buxton will be brought up until Sept 2014.

This is pointless to do until at least the season is done, or even after depending on how the offseason is handled by our front office. I guarantee you we do not see any of our top prospects (Sano, Rosario, Meyer) until at the trade deadline; at the earliest. It will likely be another rough year, but hopefully the last(?).

Its not pointless if it gives us something to do with our lives while the major league team is destroying our moods. Also, you may be the only one saying none of the next wave will be up before the trade deadline.

I hope they give Pinto & Hermann abundant innings behind the dish from here on out this season. My hope is that they can prove to be a serviceable tandem, enabling Mauer to move full-time to 1B, fatten up and start driving the ball. With any luck, Joe has only hit about 1/3 of his career HR's so far.

My reason for thinking this thread was appropriate is because I don't think the Twins should sign a bunch of free agent position players this offseason because they first need to know what they have in prospects coming up. It will be another tough year but we need take the right steps to assemble a quality, consistently competitive team.

What position do people want us to sign a definite starting player, long term, at that won't be blocking our prospects? 1B I think will be Mauer the majority of the rest of his career. SS would be a good one. Maybe Catcher?

Well, I am not convinced hicks will ever hit, so ellsbury. And pitching, lots of starting pitching. High upside guys to 1 year deals that can be flipped if they do well. Or tanaka, or the Cuban 1b....can always DH him ......any SS.
    Lighten up Francis....

Channeling my inner Aaron Gleeman here maybe, but who gives a flock about the 2014 Twins roster? the 2015 Twins is what REALLY matters, particuallry in the second half.

    3. 1B Joe Mauer
    4. 3B Miguel Sano (rookie yr, i believe)

    SP 2 Kyle Gibson
SP 3 Alex Meyer (could be actual rookie yr, if spends lots of time in AAA in 2014)
SP 4 Colby Lewis (replacement for Correia)
    SP 5 Scott Diamond

    RP 1 Glen Perkins
RP 2 Michael Tonkin (please oh please God)
RP 3 Jared Burton/ or Casey Fien
    MR 4 Ryan Pressly
    MR 5 Caleb Theilbar
    MR 6 Trevor May
LR 7 Andrew Albers (spot 6th starter)

    (some top guys in AAA)

Byron Buxton*, Daniel Ortiz, Evan Bigley, Nate Hanson, James Beresford*, Matt Koch.
Zach Jones*, Zach Jones, Zach Jones, Alex Swimmer Wimmers? , Jason Wheeler, Liam Hendriks*, Vance Worley*, AJ Achter. + Dakota Watts*

Travis Harrison, Jorge Polanco, A.B. Walker, Max Kepler? , Stuart Turner, Jorge Fernandez, Aderlin Mejia, Jose Berrios, Miguel Sulbaran, Mason Melotakis, Tyler Jones, Tyler Duffy, Taylor Rogers, Luke Bard?

I think Kohl Stewart will start 2015 in High A Ft. Myers but ya never know.

How many people thought at the start of the year that Brian Dozier would be the surest thing among the position players for 2014? How many thought that Dozier would hit the most homers for the Twins in 2013 (Quite likely, but not certain)?

Starters: Dozier 2B, Hicks CF, Mauer 1B, Willingham DH, Arcia LF, Plouffe 3B, Parmelee RF, Pinto C, Florimon SS. Bench: Herrmann, Escobar, Mastroianni, Presley

Dozier isn't the surest thing among the position players, Mauer is...but my belief in Dozier hasn't waivered. I've been a Dozier fans since before ST of 2012.

I think Rosario fans should be looking at CF instead of 2B. Dozier has taken root there. If Hicks flops, there's a vacancy.

I think they trade Doumit for a minor leaguer. I believe that, that is about all try do besides adding some minor league free agents. They do this because they will wait for prospects to come up in June/July.

    What do you think?

Dozier is the surest thing because we know his position--he'll be the second baseman to start 2014. In addition, do we know for certain that Mauer will have recovered from concussion symptoms by Opening Day? It is a bit ridiculous to think that he won't be recovered but a few players have taken close to a year or more to recover.

By the way, I think anybody that lists Colabello as a member of the Opening Day 2014 Twins is severely mistaken. I have endorsed him getting at-bats, but from what I've seen, CC can't hit big league pitching and can't play a position in the field.

Secondly, Clete and Ramirez should be DFAed, especially with the acquisition of Presley. Another obvious candidate is Bernier. These three guys have little upside and could be easily replaced.

Having Rosario able to play CF and 2nd base allows tons of flexibility for the future. It allows him to come up quicker when there is an opening in either the outfield or 2nd if Dozier moves to SS.

Of all the lists and speculations this is the one that seems most feasible and it is hard to say that, but the one factor that is not included is who is manager because these are the Gardy players - another manager might be more creative.

Another manager will still have Ryan making the personal decisions.

Several people are mentioning Dozier moving to SS to make way for Rosario. I hope that doesn't happen. We've seen what kind of SS he is--not a good one. There are other options if Rosario pans out. Rosario could move back to the outfield or Dozier could be traded. Or, he regresses and ends up a utility infielder. We'll see. It's not yet a problem, and it won't be a bad problem to have.

Joe is not going to fatten up and become David Ortiz. He's a big, strong guy already. Look at his swing, he's not a home run hitter. Appreciate what he his. Still an elite hitter.

One piece is a bit of dream here, but the rest isn't.

    C - Mauer
    1B - Parmelee
    2B - Dozier
    SS - Florimon
    3B - Plouffe
    RF - Arcia
    CF - Pressley
    LF - Willingham
    DH - Doumit

BN - Escobar, Colabello, Clete ...
SP - Tanaka, Gibson, Worley, Correia, Deduno
RP - Perkins, Burton, Tonkin, Fein ...

    Mgr - Molitor

Trade candidates for the offseason are Doumit, Willingham, and Correia. I don't see a whole lot of market on any of those guys this offseason to be honest. All will be on 1 year deals, and I fully expect them to be moved if they are having a decent year in 2014 to make room for next wave guys. Perkins is a wild card here, as I could see someone giving Ryan a deal too good to be true, but I'm not expecting it.

Pinto will be up permanently once Doumit is gone. Buxton will likely replace Willingham, and I could see him going straight from AA on that one, though I suspect he'll earn a promotion to AAA in short order. Correia will likely be replaced by one of Darnel, Meyer, or May. Worley and Deduno might find themselves in a similar position should they struggle. Hicks will likely be forced to earn his next promotion. Pressley has shown some ability in the past, so I think he's going to get a full season in 2014 to prove it. If he struggles, he gets moved if Hicks forces things. If they are both doing well, he's a trade candidate. In my dream world, we get Abreau too, but I think that's a bigger dream than Tanaka.

I left the remaining BN/RP spots blank for now. There may be an FA signing to fill those roles or we could see more of what we've seen.

I think the only way mauer gets significant first base time is if Pinto hits in the majors the way he hit in AA.
