    Hudson Boyd
    Starting Pitcher - Bats R, Throws R

    Height: 6’2” Weight 235 lbs.
Born: October 18, 1992 in Fort Myers, FL (20 years old)
Acquired: Drafted 1st round, 55th overall in 2011 MLB June Amateur Draft from Bishop Verot HS (Fort Myers, FL)

Boyd was selected by the Twins in 2011 as compensation for losing Jesse Crain to the White Sox in free agency. He's a big, hard throwing righthander whose curveball was voted the best in the Twins' organization by Baseball America after 2011. His first professional season was a mixed bag of sorts. He went straight from high school to the Appalachian League, where he compiled a 2.95 ERA in 58 innings pitched. He gave up a lot of unearned runs, however, which were the result of poor defense magnified by a lower than expected 5.6 strikeouts per 9 innings. He also struggled with control, walking 3.6 per 9 innings. The Twins will definitely be expecting to see improvements in these two areas, as Boyd has good enough stuff to challenge hitters and work ahead in the count.

Boyd has started 2013 in the Midwest League with Cedar Rapids. In 2 starts, he is 1-0 with a 3.72 ERA. It's obviously very early, but so far this season he has a WHIP of 1.034, down from 1.483 last season. His SO/9 is an encouraging 8.4, but his BB/9 remains high, at 3.7.

Boyd should be an exciting prospect to follow this season. He has the raw tools to succeed, and with his rookie season behind him, it will be interesting to see how he develops while gaining more experience with the Kernels.

Boyd had a rather rough outing his last time out, 4/26. He gave up 4 runs (all earned) on 5 hits and 4 walks in just 4 innings, striking out just one. He has failed to go more than 5 innings in a start this year, and has not gotten through the 5th in 3 of his 4 starts. This performance brings his season line to 1-1 with a 6.00 ERA. He has worked 18 innings, walking 11 and striking out 13. Opponents are currently hitting .265 against him.
