Regarding the additions to the 40 man roster... I think they will add at least 2 and now more than 6. I'd guess four. My opinion on likelihood to be added would be: 1.) Hicks, 2.) Gibson, 3.) Tonkin, 4.) Santana, 5.) Hermsen and 6.) Bruce Pugh... Salcedo is certainly interesting. Like you said, he was a 'given' going into the season, but he was hurt all year.

I would consider Pugh a distant sixth. The way the current roster is set up with the only starting pitchers being Diamond, Hendriks, De Vries and Pedro Hernandez makes me believe they'll need to leave more room than normal to add starting pitchers.

Of course most of the current relief pitchers could probably clear waivers, so maybe there really isn't a "numbers-game".

other than hicks and gibson, i really don't think any need to be added to the 40 man roster at this point. none of them have a chance to stay on an active roster all year, and the twins would get them back then, probably for the better with a chance to be in a different system for a bit - for the experience, if nothing else. leave the spots open for all those amazing free agents ryan will be signing........... right??

I've a little embarrassed that I only just discovered this at BA. A must-follow if minor league free agents interest you.

The filter makes it really easy to see where former Twins went OR if anyone has signed with the Twins.

From a Shipley article in the PP:

The Twins currently have 32 spots taken, and Ryan said they will not fill the rest with prospects.

"We don't have that many guys we need to go that far with," he said.
Players who no doubt will be added: right-hander Kyle Gibson, the team's 2009 first-round draft pick, and outfielder Aaron Hicks, the 2008 first-round pick who had a breakout year at Class AA New Britain last season.
Reliever Michael Tonkin, 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA in 10 innings in the Arizona Fall League, and starter B.J. Hermsen, 11-6 with a 3.22 ERA at New Britain, also could be protected, but the Twins need to leave room for players they pick up via free agency or trade. They already have added reliever Josh Roenicke, claimed off waivers from Colorado this month.
"We've got some decisions to make on some guys, Gibson being one," Twins minor league director Jim Rantz said. "There are some kids we're looking at -- Tonkin, Hermsen, who was our (minor league) pitcher of the year. These guys are eligible and had pretty decent years."
