So... Pinto tagged Punto out at 3rd after Lowrie got caught off base.

And it all comes around, as Lowrie gets tagged at the plate. By Pinto.

    6-1, pending ump powow...

When's the last time a team got two outs in the same inning on a tag at home?

That was a slick double play by Punto and the SS.

I haven't been able to watch much of the game, but as usual it seems the strike zone is very inconsistent. I've never been a proponent of electronic strike zone, but I may be changing my mind. I watched the inning where Pelfrey struggled on the edge of the zone, walked a few and got out with the score only 1-1. It seemed they were squeezing him. The next inning, the first two pitches to Kubel weren't as good as what Pelfrey threw and both were called strikes. I don't get it. I'd just like to see some consistency.

By the way, Kubel is mashing. If only he could get more than a single on a ball that misses being a homer by about a foot.

The 'Punto plays the game the right way' narrative was an aggravated assault on reason and empiricism. His base running buffoonery today has renewed my gratitude for Bill Smith's decision to surgically separate him from Gardenhire's hip.

Sam is not going to be starting anytime soon if he keeps issuing walks.

DickNBert have been going full-force with that narrative during Punto's at-bats. Punto put a spell on the entire organization.

Don't know. (and am too lazy to research) but it is an interesting question.

I believe the first one (Punto) was a little deceptive, as the announcers said Lowrie got caught off first, and somewhere in that rundown, Punto broke for home, and they threw it in to stop the run, and Punto stayed in a rundown long enough for all runners to move up, at which point he was run back to 3rd by Pinto. (And i just thought it fun to say Pinto tags Punto with, um the ball, in the conservatory...) But yeah, you can't tell that from the box score.

Figured they would, but thanks for confirming it. Takes away some of the disappointment of missing the first half of the game.

Punto broke for home while Mauer was actually looking at him from first. Totally bad baserunning.

This is the kind of offense I expected we'd have. Now if the pitchers would get to what I expected.

Man, just 3 hits and one run. Whatever happened to homefield advantage?

It's going to be hard day for those of us fighting the Mauer overrated crowd after this game.

That, or bad coaching. However unlikely, it's possible that Gallego told Punto, "See if you can find a spot that you can't score from, and also can't safely return to third from!"

Had to laugh when I saw the play, because it was the perfect mirror image of the trademark Punto fake hustle play, 'running out the fly ball'.

Which is great, unless you do it the Punto way. At least once a week you'd see him running hard for the next base after hitting a fly, and ending up in exactly the wrong place when the catch was made. Less than half way, full throttle, head down, virtually guaranteeing that if the fielder were to muff the catch he'd just get thrown out sliding head first when the fielder or another one backing him up recovered it.

Good to see that even long after his departure from the Twins, all those lessons at the Yasiel Puig's Dad Baserunning Academy are still paying off for Li'l Nick.
