    Kevin Slowey

Slowey, now pitching for Cleveland's AAA club after failing to make Cleveland's opening day roster, hasn't looked so good. In four starts he's 1-2, 4.85 ERA. In 26ip, he's struck out 18 while walking 7. He's also given up 29 hits already. And he's last two starts have been his worst. On the plus side, for him, he's making 2.75million.

Never understood the Slowey hype. Go back to '05/'06, and people were talking about this guy like he was going to be an absolute horse for years. Impeccable control. Keeps the ball the down. Gets a ton of grounders.

Turns out that strikeout success in the minors does project fairly well to the majors, but pitch-to-contact is a whole different ballgame. How many Brad Radke clones has this organization drafted over the past 10 years? It's the one major failure of an organization that did a lot of things right over those years, and we're paying for it now.

Was drawing Maddux comparisons. Too many of us bought into that. I know I did.

    1) Slowey was never a groundball pitcher

    2) Slowey was great in '08, but the line drive to the wrist at the end of the season was devastating. That pin he eventually had put in his wrist made it hard to get as much movement on his breaking stuff IMO.
