It makes logical sense, but there aren't comps for back of the rotation starters to get traded this time of year.

I looked at trades the last several years and the return is either a player that isn't fitting on another teams roster or a non prospect.

Would you trade Correia for a guy out of options that isn't making another team's roster as a 4th OF?

Worley's 10+ ERA jumped with a 3-run first tonight. No way do I want to trade Correia. It's going to be hard to evaluate talent when you are always 6 runs down.

Now, trading Worley? I thought he was going to win the fifth starter job. Now I'd take about anything.

I feel at this time Worley is out, with Diamond not far behind. Really, with what Diamond has shown, would you keep him over Deunsing, Thielbar, Hoffman, or even Thompson at this point as a LH in the pen?

With so many SP falling by the way due to injury all of a sudden, an inexpensive vet SP like Correia, signed for just this year, might never have more value than he has right now. (Already stated)

I think the question is, do the Twins feel comfortable starting the season with Deduno and Gibson at 4 & 5?

    (would love to see it)

Not sure why a team would need to "scout" KC if they are interested in trading for him, he is pretty much a known asset at this point.

There is really no reason why the Twins should be trading May. His trade value isn't near its peak and the Twins cant afford to trade away any legit pitching prospects.

I would love to see it too. Let's find out of Gibson can cut it or not. As for Deduno, he might just end the year as our best SP. I say go for it if they can get reasonable value for Correia.

Man, did worley look terrible tonight. Maybe Johnson gets a shot if someone goes down or they could send Pressly down to be stretched out as a starter if they move Correia. This could be an opportune time to see if Pressly can start.

I agree with everything you said. But really, looking to resurrect Pressly as a starter begins to look like more of the straw-grasping, who's-yer-starters-this-week? game of last year. I'd prefer not to go down that path until we find out more about Gibson, Deduno, Johnson and then, Meyer.

Why KC did that deal without an extension is beyone me.
Star Tribune? Someone on these boards said that Twins should trade Pamelee and a non top 15 prospect for the Astro's catcher Castro. There are plenty of trade proposals on these boards that match anything in the Strib.

Actually, I got the idea to stretch out Pressly from Blyleven during the broadcast last night and it has nothing to do with who are the starters in the short-term. This strategy has little or nothing to do with starters for this year. We have a lot of bullpen options. If you are going to send Pressly down, what does it hurt to give him more innings for developmental purposes and see how he fares back in a starter role.

Part of Blyleven's point was that Sanatana was a rule 5 player who followed a very similar path. Does Pressly have the same type of ceiling as Santana ? Highly unlikely but the Astros did not think enough of him to protect him from the rule 5 draft and the Marlins wanted Jared Camp (who never made it to the ML level) ahead of Sanatana. I don't think it makes sense to assume we know exactly what Pressly can be just yet.

I'd logically agree, but I recall Ryan specifically saying he signed Correia because he got good reviews from his scouts.

In fact we had a bit of a brouhaha about it because many of us thought it was silly to need scouts to evaluate Correia at this point in his career and we preferred Ryan to base his decision on Jack Goin and the data team instead. So regardless of how everyone feels about that dustup now, at the very least, the Twins still use scouts to evaluate veteran pitchers, it stands to reason the Rays would too.

Someone could probably just send these guys a Youtube link and save the organization the travel costs.

It depends on the timing. The Twins have a lot of pitchers looking for innings at AAA currently. Gibson, May, Gilmartin, Johnson, Darnell, Pat Dean, Hermsen and perhaps Meyer. If Pressly is moved from the pen into a starting role as an injury replacement, no problem. If he starts squeezing out Gibson, May, Gilmartin, Darnell, Johnson or if it's at the expense of calling up a ready AA (Meyer for instance) then it's a problem.

But that's not what I said, and I don't appreciate the mischaracterizations.

What I did say was to offer a Twins top 11-20 prospect and an established RP plus one of the Twins spare 1B-men (which could include Plouffe) and see what the Astros thought---- as a place to start the negotiations. They clearly have already indicated that they don't want to pay Castro longer-term and they might desire something from what the Twins have to offer. You don't know what's of interest to another club until you ask- if the price is too dear, no harm done, you simply walk away.

You make a good point. This had not occurred to me. The assumption was this plan was part of keeping Gibson on the 25 man roster. I guess May would have to stay at AA. It could still be a problem if Meyer, Johnson, Gilmartin, Darnell, Dean andf Hermsen are slated for Rochester. However, based on last year, I am not too worried if Hermsen is in the pen.
