I see Sean Gilmartin making the 40 man with Albers likely gone. Unfortunately, this also means we are likely going to see Kris Johnson makes starts at one point. Let's hope for minimal injuries this year.

That 40 man spot is Kubel's unless additional moves are made.

There is no reason to move Gilmartin to the 40-man unless he makes the 25-man roster, a real long shot to start the season.

Surely there's no hurry here to fill the spot from within? And surely, there are more (and better), "additional moves" to the roster coming between now and opening day? The Twins wouldn't go into the season with fewer offensive weaponry tools than last year- a year which produced one of the highest K-rates of all-time and the lowest Twins run total since 1968 (The "Year of the Pitcher")? Surely, they still covet acquiring an additional FA major league arm?

    Surely?

I think they are probably just signing Justin Turner, a bench bat, and a minor move.

Good for Albers if this is true. Also good for the Twins as Albers have very little chance of making the Twins rotation.

He did have a very small chance of making the roster. I was hoping to see more of him in AAA and the majors if injuries made it necessary. I suppose this is because he was a bright spot on an otherwise dim season.

I like feel good stories, and Albers was one for last season. Sounds like a good deal for everyone involved. Here's hoping he enjoys the culture and experience. The Twins should have enough SP arms after our FAs that we can easily bare to lose him.

Good for him. Now, whom to sign with the open spot? Garza?

Do they just go ahead and add Kubel now? Or later?

No reason to add Kubel until the end of spring training.

There is no way that Samuel Deduno, Scott Diamond and Vance Worley will not get claimed if passed through waivers, so they are not really part of the Rochester rotation competition. LHPs Pat Dean and Logan Darnell (who were at Rochester at the end of 2013) and RHP Virgil Vasquez who pitched for Rochester in 2013.

Add Gilmartin & Johnson to Dean & Darnell and the Twins all of the sudden have 4 lefties (even if you exclude Diamond) ahead of Albers.

Is it just me, or does Albers look like he could be Justin Morneau's little brother?

I doubt anyone, even you, would confuse Riza Santos with Bill Shatner.

Great points in Phil Miller's Strib blog: http://www.startribune.com/sports/tw...241358231.html

Albers is 27, and won't be eligible for free agency until he's 34. According to his agent, Blake Corosky, Albers had never made over $25k a year in pro ball, with the exception of last season. A year in Korea guarantees financial stability for him, and his family.

The kid can come back in 2015, when the Twin's log jam of starting pitchers might be broken up. It's hard to see the downside on this deal, except if you were looking forward to seeing Albers pitch for Rochester in 2014.

Sounds like the deal is final now.

High six-figures will buy a lot of bulgogi.
